Sustainability Work Is Actively Managed

Sustainability work at Verkkokauppa.com is managed and developed in a holistic way, according to well-defined focus areas. The company's sustainability work and its development are guided by a Sustainability Steering Group, with participants from the company's top management and experts as appropriate. The steering group is chaired by Suvituuli Tuukkanen, the company's Director, Marketing and Communications, who is also a member of the company's management team. The Sustainability Unit under her guidance is responsible for the practical coordination and reporting of the work. Operational responsibility for the plans is shared across the organization. Corporate responsibility issues are also regularly discussed in Management Team meetings and form part of the reporting to the Board. The Board of Directors establishes the company's policy and responsibility program and monitors activities from an environmental and social responsibility perspective.

We Communicate and Report Transparently

We want to communicate transparently about both our products and our operations. We are a leader in the retail sector and actively participate in the debate on products and trends. As a publicly listed company, we communicate and report on our operations in accordance with the rules concerning listed companies’ disclosure obligation and our own disclosure policy. Our core principles are timeliness, consistency, equality and transparency. Our marketing may be bold and thought-provoking, but we ensure that we always communicate truthfully and in accordance with good practice.

We report on our corporate responsibility work as part of our annual reporting and comply with legislation on reporting non-financial information.

Our Code of Conduct Guides Our Actions

Commitment to responsible business is an integral part of the culture, success and values of Verkkokauppa.com. The Verkkokauppa.com Code of Conduct defines the Company’s way of working and applies to all personnel and management alike.

We also expect our partners to adhere to with our Code of Conduct. In addition, we impose more stringent requirements on suppliers who supply our own brands in terms of working conditions and environmental practices, and we monitor compliance with these requirements.

The Code of Conduct and other policies that guide the company's activities and complement and refine the Code of Conduct can be found in a summarized form on our website. All our stakeholders have the opportunity to raise concerns about the policy or its implementation through the company's reporting channel.

Our Corporate Responsibility Work Concentrates on the Focus Areas Identified Material

Verkkokauppa.com's corporate responsibility work focuses on topics identified through materiality analysis and stakeholder consultation. Material topics have been identified based on the environmental, social and economic impacts of the company's activities, the expectations of key stakeholders, and the company's values and strategic priorities. The topics have been selected taking into account the specificities of the business and the operating environment, key international agreements and evolving reporting requirements.

We engage in an active and ongoing dialog with our key stakeholders to understand the diverse expectations of our activities and also to strengthen relationships. Our key stakeholders include employees, customers, partners and owners. The expectations of these different stakeholders have been mapped in a variety of ways. We actively involve staff in brainstorming and interaction through our daily communication channels; we use the annual staff survey and other topical surveys to understand staff expectations, giving us valuable insights into their wishes and needs.

Customers, for their part, provide us with important feedback in daily encounters in-store and through our other customer service channels. We also carried out a customer survey in 2022 that examined electronics, online shopping and responsibility. We maintain a close dialog with our business customers and listen to their expectations, including through the purchasing conditions set to us. Meetings, inquiries and daily communication play an important role in partner consultation. For our interaction with owners, we use a variety of channels, including investor and analyst meetings, surveys and evaluations.

In addition to the above-mentioned data-collection methods, we conducted a sustainability themede stakeholder survey in 2020, which resulted in 2600 responses. According to the respondents, product longevity and actions promoting longevity were considered the most important sustainability issues in our business. This was followed by waste minimization, staff well-being, social responsibility in the supply chain and responsible marketing. The key issues identified have been grouped into priority areas that we are placing particular working focus on.

We do goal-oriented sustainability work

Verkkokauppa.com's responsibility program sets goals for Verkkokauppa.com’s sustainability work for the 2021-2025 strategy period and covers all the sustainability focus areas. The program works as an internal management tool and its progress is monitored within the sustainability steering group. The sustainability program is part of Verkkokauppa.com’s annual sustainability reporting.
