Canon
On hyvä. Suorastaan loistava. Myös tavaran tilaaminen ja nouto helppoa
Fogelin kuvaaja55–64v Great but not perfect
I've had the RF100-500 for over a year now and without a doubt it helped me to reach further and opened new door in my wildlife photography journey. Its size and weigth allows for prolonged hand shooting and taking it for longer hikes. I love this lens, but i have to say it's not perfect. F7.1 on the long end is a significant downside and late afternoon or early evening shooting requires high ISO. That, of course, comes with noise. Another thing that I'd like to see improved is the bokeh, just now it's not exactly attractive and visibly lacks in comparison to the 'expensive' lenses.
I purchased this with the R6mk2 to lighten the overall weight of the set up. Whilst the R6 is lighter, than the 1DX mk2 I had, the RF 100-500 is heavier than the EF 100-400mk2. I suppose it should've been expected. Overall it is a great lens and I really like the lock which stops the lens extending whilst pointed down. I've had really good results using it for Military aviation in windy conditions. I have many events coming up so am looking forward to being continually happy with the results
Great Piece of Kit
Really pleased with this lens which I bought recently having taken the decision to swap to mirrorless. I've previously been using an 850D with a Sigma 150-600mm lens. The new combination is so much lighter which was one of the deciding factors for me and I'm using it to photograph Dragonflies close up and more distant birds. The results are impressive for both.
An impressive lens!
An impressive lens, though it takes some adjustment. As a sports photographer focusing on rugby, transitioning from the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 (with adapter) required some time to adapt to the zoom ring placement, the external zooming mechanism, and the multiple rotations needed to shift from 100mm to 500mm.
That said, the image quality is just as sharp as the 70-200mm. Cropped shots taken at a distance appear especially crisp compared to the 70-200mm, where I may have been pushing the limits before. Thankfully, with the resolution of the R5, cropping isn’t a concern.
Best lens choices of all time..
So, I chose this over the 200-800 simply because I felt it would more versatile and higher quality being an ‘L’ series lens and so likely to get more use. Well, this lens goes with me on every trip now unlike the 150-600 I used to have. Focussing is instant and precise, image quality is absolutely spot on and razor sharp at all lengths. Its close focus ability and excellent image stabilisation make this an outstanding lens that delivers superb results in all sorts of conditions. Build quality is up to the usual Canon calibre making this one of my best lens choices of all time, nice one Canon…..
Bit Early…
I bought this for a safari coming up in June, and, as a first-timer with a long lens, am busy practising. So, it’s both ‘too early to judge’, and my opinion ain’t very informed or reliable at this stage. Obviously it’s both heavy and expensive, but that’s hopefully a sign of quality, and so far on simple zooms on static subjects it’s impressive, with fast focus and sharp images. As for tracking moving subjects, that’s where I struggle - acquiring and following a moving subject, and getting focus, is an art I’ve yet to conquer. Wish me luck ! I dare say there’ll be more sleeping lions than cheetahs chasing prey.
Oh, yes…One minor irritation is that it’s not possible to operate the zoom ring with the lens hood fitted. Or maybe that’s another skill I’ve yet to master.
Great Lens
Purchased as an upgrade from EF100-400, as such a great improvement of course. All the superlatives that have been used in describing this lens apply, what more can I add? Mainly that it’s a great relief to be able to shed the weight of adaptor and extender, and this lens is lighter and smaller anyway. Expensive (naturally) but I think a worthwhile upgrade if you’ve gone mirrorless.
Absolutely Fantastic
I am a motorsports photographer and this lens ticks all the boxes for all my needs on circuit as well as on the grid and in the pits as well
Wildlife Capture
I purchased the RF 100-500mm lens, a few months ago, following reviews from friends and online. I have just come back from a holiday in Scotland and was luck enough to photograph Pine Martens and other wildlife. The results have surpassed my expectations as an amateur photographer. I tend to use the Tv setting and on the odd occasion change various auto settings to suit the environment. Can't wait to see results on a big screen.
Startling good.
I've shot with the EF 70-200/2.8, and a couple editions of the IS version of that. For me the 70-200/2.8 is a must-have lens, but only in a set with the 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters.
This lens to me BASICALLY works like a 70-200/2.8 that has the 1.4x attached, but if you zoom farther in effect has the 2.0x attached, but can go even farther as if it has a 2.5x attached. However the images to me seem far better than the EF70-200/2.8's even without teleconverters, much less with. It is FAR better optically, and the IS is excellent.
The things that suck most about this lens are what sucks about ALL RF lenses: the front cap and back cap are both FAR harder to use than the EF versions. By the time I manage to get an RF back cap on I'm so frustrated I want to throw the entire camera in a ditch and lose my train of thought completely about my photographic project.
Compact, light and ideal range.
A great lens that covers many genres from sport to wildlife whilst being light and practical for general use.
Erratic performance
I bought this lens specifically for a safari to Zambia and had a very mixed experience: the main issue was that auto focus failed on numerous occasions, either dedecting the subject but just not focussing, or not functioning at all. The issue was the same on both my R6 mkII bodies. I finally figured that switching to manual focus then back to AF seemed to 'cure' the problem ... until the next incident. Too many ruined photos on a 'trip of a lifetime'. Thankfully my faithful RF70-210 lens worked a treat.
Outstanding. For wildlife look no further.
Took on safari mated to R6. Pin sharp images. Don’t let the aperture put you off.
So far, so excellent...
I bought this lens about a month ago, primarily as a versatile travel lens, to use on both the R6 and R7 for bird and wildlife photography. So far I've tried it only on the former, and have been more than impressed by its performance with lightning fast AF and tracking performance that outperforms even my EF 100-400 II - at least on the R6. Image quality is about the same. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking to travel light with both FF and APS-c, thus allowing a focal range of 100-800mm.
Brilliant lens
Upgraded from the EF 100-400 (which was a lovely lens) to this RF 100-500 lens. It is magnificent. Lighter to hold (no adapter anymore) and the extra 100mm makes a difference. The lens is pin sharp and enables cropping of distant images to produce excellent detail and colour. Really glad I made the change.
Brilliant lens.
Had lens little while now, used it for all kinds of photography including floodlit football game in considerably rainy conditions. The lens worked fantastically and tracked people with lightning fast autofocus in low contrast low light situation. Amazing clarity for everything so far that I have done. Previous lenses weren’t L lenses. What an amazing difference I am finding. Incredibly happy and confident with this lens.
Sharp Images and Quick Focus
Great lens considering the focal length it’s pretty light to fit what it is, my main subject is motorsport so quick AF is needed, I find it tack sharp and focus's quickly, highly recommend
Fast focus nice hood with window to allow adjustment or filters.
Works very well with my new R7 can hand hold at equivalent of 800mm Great for birding.
Still not sure which setting of the stabilizer is best 1 or 3.
Also good on my RP.
I think my lens may be faulty
I bought my lens a month ago and so far I'm not very impressed with the image focusing as the images are very soft. Also the tripod collar is very loose even when screw is tight.
Not great experience
I bought it on 30/11/23 and still no cashback
The camera didn’t have a carry case or anything to put it in & no instruction book, so struggling at the moment, not a good experience
Kevyt L -sarjan tele zoom
Hyvä zoom useimpiin tilanteisiin.
Valovoiman erinomaisuus yllätti
On kyllä erinomainen objektiivi eläinkuvaukseen! Tämä olisi saanut olla jo aiemmin markkinoilla. Pidän objektiivin valovoimasta, tarkennuksesta ja piirrosta. Hyvä ostos!
For me, an absolute game changer.
I bought this lens a month or so ago, and in short, I now look for excuses to use it... it certainly doesn't stay in my bag for days on end!
So far I've used it for photographing local wildlife (mainly birds) and for BMX racing. I still need to up my own game for the wildlife, getting closer being my main issue, but with the BMX racing, wow, just wow! The eye-controlled subject focussing of my Canon EOS R3 is a revelation with this lens, and it is sharp, so so sharp. This lens is so easy to handle too, being nice and 'pointy'
Don't let the maximum apertures put you off. If like me you can't afford a large telephoto prime, this lens won't leave you feeling short-changed. The images I'm getting are pretty incredible, and the low weight means this lens can go everywhere with me, and usually it'll stay attached to my camera.
Yes, there are a couple of shortcomings, such as the restricted zoom range when using an extender, and the zoom ring requiring two 'goes' to zoom from on extreme to the other, but these are compromises I'll happily accept with this great lens.
Now then, when will this rotten weather give me a break?
