Sound, sound and yet more sound!

Not with these babies, well done Bose...!!! Not only do they not move at all, but after 2 minutes you have no idea they're in your ear apart from the gorgeous full sound that continuously and seamlessly streams to each bud. Extremely comfortable, lightweight, great battery life, but above all, the sound is amazing! I've used them on my Fiio DAP, iPhone 8 + and iMac, and they make all sound great. Connection is simple, and they easily identify each of them, and even tell you what you are connected to! I've wanted these for some time now, but could never afford them! I love my music, and have used many headphones and IEM's in the past from various leading brands. I had a choice of a few different brands but decided on these, and so glad I did. Arvosana 5/5As a fitness enthusiast and gym-goer, I exercise 5-7 times in a week in the gym and outdoors; and music is an important part of my exercise routine. Like most people I dislike wires and have been using Bluetooth sports headset since 2008, with my first one being Motorola S9. Over the last 10 years I have experimented with a few, with my latest being a Sony Bluetooth sports headset (MDR-XB50BS). Most of the ones I’ve used have connections for the two earpieces behind the neck, therefore it can cause issues when doing exercises that require lying down on a bench, such as Bench Presses or getting caught up in kits etc. Enter the Bose Sportsound Free. As a gym-goer who dislikes wires, I was keen to see how well it performs in practice. By being truly wireless, it can have compromises such as battery life, and actual size perhaps a bit bulkier than the ‘non-truly wireless’ ones as it needs to house additional connectors, battery in each earpiece etc. Below is a summary of my experience and I’ve rated this out of 5 for each criteria and I’ve used this mainly with a Samsung Note 8 (Android) and Ipad Mini (iOS). Battery Life and Carry Case (5/5) Fantastic – First of all no wires meant I needed a good case to store the units when not in use; so I don’t lose them. The case is very compact (see pictures next to iPhone 7) I was impressed with the magnetic connectors and which charges the earphones while storing it. It is compact and it has battery indicator. I’ve used it three times since charging for three 45 minutes gym sessions and I still have about 2/3 left (on the case). It looks like I will only need to charge this once a week for 7 days exercising. I always keep it in the case, which recharges the ear phones whist storing them. Without the case, they will last 5 hours (advertised); my workouts is never more than one hour, so I can’t fully confirm this yet. It can be recharged quickly; i.e. 15 minutes will give you 45 minutes which is great for me. Connectivity and Companion App (5/5) Excellent – no issues and it connects to my device as soon as I take it out of the case. The App is excellent too but I’m yet to fully test it but it certainly helps managing connections etc. To pair another device is very easy, by just pressing the button on the earpiece. The App provides a useful user manual as well as ability to locate, manage connections etc. Definitely useful but for me, a gripe with my previous headsets is the constant fiddling with Bluetooth on my phone to connect; this one is just about taking it out of the case, connect and go. The Bluetooth signal is strong and reliable with a good range. So on that basis, I’m impressed! Comfort and Ergonomics (5/5) Initially I felt it was a bit bulkier than the equivalent ‘non-truly wireless’ Bose Sportsound Bluetooth (which my brother owns), it was light and fitted nicely. You will get three ear tips (S/M/L) with M as default. I’ve tried all three and settled for Medium. At first I didn’t feel it was securely in place and felt loose; but it wasn’t. It didn’t fall off doing burpees, pull ups, deadlifts, bench presses or running. It also looks nice and can draw attention and people at the gym will ask questions about it. It’s easy to forget they are there and just get on with the exercises. The physical buttons well positioned and it is intuitive. I found I had to press a bit hard to use but no issues, with pairing, changing volumes etc. Charging Port (3/5) It has micro USB and preference here will really depend on each users’ devices. For me as I have a Samsung Note 8 and Apple devices; I would have preferred USB type C, so one less cable to carry around. I would have preferred a more modern connector such as USB Type C. The cable is also very short, which is okay if I’m charging from a PC but not great from a wall charger. Sound Quality (5/5) The sound is fantastic for a sports earphones; it has a good balance and sound has good depth as well as clarity. Unlike my Sony, the bass is not overpowering. It is the best sports earphones, I’ve used so far and it’s great for gym or exercising e.g. running outdoors it is safer as it doesn’t cancel noise out completely. It will block external sound to some degree, such as gym music and general background noise but it will struggle in extremely loud environments. I am not sure this will work well on the plane. I have seen online reviews highlighting about video syncing issues; I tried this with youtube and Netflix and didn’t experience any lag or video/audio syncing issues . Build Quality and Durability (5/5) It feels solidly built and both the case and the earphones feels good quality. Doesn’t feel flimsy and looks like they are built to last – time will tell. Being water resistant is important for sport earphones. Call Quality (too early to tell) I got a call and a voice over will tell me who’s calling. I answered the phone call without any issues and it worked well. I cannot provide a rating yet as I have used it just once. Verdict (5/5) The Bose Sportsound Free do not come cheap and the finest things in life do come at a price. The sound is exceptionally good and it does everything right such as seamless reliable connectivity, build quality, sound quality and battery life. It is designed for gym-goers & fitness enthusiasts and from that perspective, it does everything really well. It will not fall out, no matter the exercise routine and is comfortable to wear. It will not completely block sounds completely which makes it safer for runners or cyclists. It struggles in extremely loud environment and I wouldn’t recommend this for commuting or the plane. I highly recommend this IF intend to use this mainly for exercising so I don’t think it would be right to compare with other offerings such as noise cancelling headphones. Arvosana 5/5[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I would say anyone who isn’t enthusiastic about finding the best quality ear phones or much music in general these aren’t for you, these are best primarily for music, they offer the best clarity and good bass which isn’t over the top like most earphones these days, it also works well with phone calls on iPhones and the drop off for the Bluetooth can happen sometimes but hardly ever and most of the time you will not know that they have lost connection as it gains it back straight away, is has only occurred when I have been in strong winds that Bluetooth would drop. However for the extra £20 these are a far better choice than the AirPods, and even though at first they feel like that they will fall out your ear, they will not and never have for me and I have had mine for nearly 6 months now, you will get used to the feeling. The reviews for these were mixed, but I knew from previous products from Bose that sound quality is never compromised. I wasn’t disappointed, the sound is great and the headphones fit snugly when training. They are not noise cancelling, but they never claimed to be. They've survived years of running and cycling through wet UK weather and don't show any signs of giving up! They work well with my ears and stay planted for all of my activities although if it's really rainy, they can get a little slippery and easier to pop out of my ears. Arvosana 5/5[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these just over a year ago after having the AirPods. The AirPods were okay but these were just different gravy. The sound quality with these is almost unmatched. I use them every day and only have to charge them once every 3 days. The case fits in any small bag or coat pocket, if you have large pockets you would be able to fit these in there. (I’ve never been a Fan of putting cases in my pockets). I accidentally put these through my washing machine for an hour wash at 1100 spin. I got the bud out, charged it and it works like normal. These are genuinely in my opinion far superior to the normal AirPods and even with the new pro model from a price standpoint they hold up as they have far more bass. I have done many extreme workouts with these in and they have never fallen out, at times I have tried to get them to fall out but I can’t. The three tip options for the buds really do suit every ear to maximise enjoyment and sound quality. I could not recommend highly enough these buds.
