LG UltraWide 49WQ95C-W 49" Curved Monitor

I’m a CGI/Viz Artist and I must say, this monitor looks and performs amazingly! It offers everything I need. It to me the most complete monitor in the market.

Ended up buying one for the office and another one for home office.

Great screen, perfect all rounder for productivity & gaming alike

Excellent, no issues except for maybe the monitor is a little too quick to go to sleep when it says there is no signal. I also found the 'dual controller' software to be a little buggy, but that's only needed if you want to try and control two computers at once with the same keyboard and mouse.

I didn't have the problem that 'SparkyUK' mentioned about power delivery. Connects to my Macbook Pro M1 via USB C power without any problems, and that's with a 2nd external monitor connected as well.

This screen is great, the inbuilt speaker produce more than satisfactory sound. Works great with a PC and Apple.

Paperilla tämä tuote näyttää mahtavalta. 144hz IPS-paneeli ultrawide-koossa. KVM ja vielä pä usb-c työläppäreitä varten. Ja sitten koko tuote lässähtää ja kunnolla. Tämä ei todellakaan ole 2000 euron näyttö, mutta harkitsemisen arvoinen toimistoon 1000€ hintaluokassa.

Tässä näytössä on 2x hdmi 2.1 liitäntää, 1x 1.4 dp (joka pyörii DSC-kompressoinnin kautta, joskin kompressoinnin voi ottaa pois päältä. Kompressointi koskee myös USB-C -liitäntää), 1x USB-C liitäntä, joka siirtää näytön signaalia, mutta dataa vain USB 2.0 nopeudella, 1x USB-B liitäntöjä tietokoneeseen, 2.0 nopeudella sekä 2x USB 3.0 portteja ilman virtaa.

Eli toisin sanoen dataliitännät toimivat tässä näytössä vain ja ainoastaan usb 2.0 nopeuksilla, vaikka siniset 3.0-portit löytyvät näytöstä. Porteilla ei myöskään, usb-c porttia lukuunottamatta voi ladata esimerkiksi hiirtä tai näppäimistöä. KVM tosin toimii sangen hyvin. Näytön asetuksista voi määritellä mikä näyttösignaali saa milloinkin usb-laitteet.

Itse paneeli on kuitenkin varsin hyvälaatuinen ja pyörii vaikuttavasti 144hz:n taajuudella. Yleiset IPS-paneelin heikkoudet, eli bloom, backlight bleed ja local dimming zonen puute kuitenkin tulee vastaan varsin nopeasti. Paneelissa on myös hyvin konservaativinen kaarevuus, eli jos pidät enemmän perinteisistä lättänistä näytöistä, tämä ei juurikaan vaikuta kaarevalta. Tosin tässä koko luokassa käyttäjä voi myös toivoa enemmän kaarevuutta, jolloin päätä ei tarvitse kääntää.

Paneelin ohjelmisto on hyvin pelkistetty. Sisään tulevasta signaalista ei juurikaan saa tietoa siitä, onko signaali pakattu, onko rgb vai 4:4:4 tai 4:4:2. Isona minuksena on hyvin aggressiivinen virransäästöohjelma, joka aiheuttaa sen, että näyttö himmenee hyvin nopeasti ja taustavalot voivat ruveta välkkymään kuin joulukuusi, mikä on hyvin häiritsevää käytössä. Oletusasetuksilla värit olivat miellyttäviä, mutta preseteistä löytyy sekä srgb että DCI-P3 preset, jos tarkempi värimaailma kiinnostaa. G-sync toimii kun ruudunpäivitys on yli 48fps, mutta ei sen alla.

Näytössä on kuulokeliitäntä sekä 2x 10 watin kaiutinta. Kaiuttimet eivät omiin korviin kuulostaneet hassumilta, mutta genelec-laatua ei kuitenkaan kannata odottaa.

Kaikissa nykyajan näytöissä on hirveä määrä kompromisseja. Tämä on ihan kelpo 1000€ näyttö, mutta nykyhintaluokassaan aivan karmea. USB-2.0 liitäntöjä ei pitäisi olla tämän hintaluokan näytöissä.

This is a nice screen, but I feel it needs a slightly better arc radius because it's a little too flat.

That aside, the main issues with this laptop are if you use the USB-C to power your computer. Nearly every time I wake my computer, the screen wakes up and I have approx 30 seconds of usage before it claims there's no signal, and then goes to sleep. This is not an issue of the computer as we've tried many of them. The only way to wake the monitor again is to unplug and replug in the USB-C cable (we're using the ones supplied from LG).

Additionally, we also have issues with items plugged into the USB host (using the USB-A ports) such as web cams. These are often not available after waking and we have to unplug them and then plug them in again after a moment - otherwise they don't appear available to the host computer.

There is clearly some issue with the monitor supplying power to UBC-C and USB-A ports. Once the power is removed the computers lock and then you have to unlock them (by opening the lid), logging in and then the external source works again. Doing this 3 or 4 times in a day for each monitor has made us realise we'll not buy from LG next time.

It's a real shame about these 49" monitors - we're not seeing this issue with a bunch of the 40" versions, but this model in particular is a massive pain to use with USB-C.

The bezel gap between the glass and frame is terrible, the outer bezel is wobbly with varying gaps between the frame and glass, and the monitor crecks like an old floor. Super disappointed 😞
