Excellent lens for an all purpose prime.
Superb lens all for my use case (mainly family, street and travel). Being a compact form factor is really beneficial to me and it produces beautifully rendered photographs. The 40mm focal length really hits a sweet spot for my photography, and the only thing that would improve it is if it was f/1.8 instead of f/2.5, however that's a trade off I'm prepared to take as the images at the widest aperture are still very sharp.
Great day to say lens
I brought this to use on my Sony A7CR as my day to day camera
I tried all three lens and found the 40mm to be the best
With 80mp you can still crop and have a great quality photo
Small and light, great for street photography
light, compact and very sharp. works very well with both my bodies (A7R3 and A7CR), but especially with the A7CR for a light and discreet street shooting combo.

Great Lens
I wanted a small but good quality lens for my new Sony A7C II, as a travel and daily use lens. I have recently started to use prime lenses because of the sharp photos they produce and because they tend to be much more compact than zooms. This focal length is perfect in my opinion, not too wide and not too tight. A very good lens indeed.
An excellent little lens, and so sharp.
I bought this for when I needed slightly wider than 50mm, for when I shoot portraits, as I already have the 50mm f1.8, and the 40mm is compact and really sharp.
Fantastic all round travel lens
I bought this with travel in mind an I am really pleased I did. The lens is really light, 40mm is a great focal length, and extremely sharp corner to corner.
Lovely little lens
I really like my FE 40mm f2.5 G lens, it's my main walkabout lens. I prefer 40mm to both 35mm and 50mm. This Sony lens is lovely, it feels great in the hand, it is small, light weight and very is sharp. Its also really nice to have a proper aperture ring. Thoroughly recommended.
GREAT GENERAL PURPOSE LENS
Excellent build quality. I love the focus hold button, aperture ring, smooth action and the (slightly wide angle) view. Great optics and f2.5 is a great compromise between cost and a wide aperture. Recommended.
Sweet
40mm is the right spot for street photography.
It’s not too wide and not too narrow… just right.
This is a nice, solid and compact lens with a really nice lens hood that doesn’t shout ‘Lens hood!’… I like how small it all is.
