    First step into Cine range

I was making the step up from Canon DSLR to cine range for film making and after a lot of research went for the C70. It had been six years or so since my last camera purchase, I didn't have a load to spend or want to get a big rig as I liked the compactness and speed of DSLR filming and this actually feels okay even hand held (depends on the lens of course) although I'll be shooting on a tripod mainly for steady shots.

The C70 with the speed booster adapter has allowed me to use my existing EF lenses until I can afford RF but this also gives an extra stop so that was a real surprise bonus for low light shooting. I'm not a techy I am self-taught and had always been used to manual focus but the AF is decent on this and you can also turn that off if some EF lens motors are getting noisy and use manual with an AF booster assist to nail the focus. I found the 'nifty fifty' F1.8mm version with STM motor amazing it really works well on here. I wish Canon made primes in more focal lengths with STM at that price point :-)

Another reason I needed to up my spec was to have 4K. C-log 2 and 3 is a new thing for me but there's a BT 709 Wide DR setting that I'm using for now which should need minimum grading if you aren't used to doing much in post. You can upload LUTs to use but then that's burnt into the footage (I'm told).

The battery life is much longer than on DSLRs, there's two versions but I'm finding the standard one pretty good and it has mains too! That's going to be so useful .

I can record decent sound on this with the mini XLR jacks, exact spec is on reviews out there. Saves me setting up another recorder for interview scenarios.

Cards are fast and mega pricey after being used to DSLR cards but worth finding a reliable brand of course and if you get a V90 256GB for instance you can shoot for a long time.

Anyway that's my personal experience if it helps anyone in a similar position. I'm looking forward to getting out and filming with it.
