The star plate allows the fixture body installed in the junction box to be rotated in the desired direction or enables the installation of a fixture with a ceiling cup that is too small to a standard mounting hole pattern in the junction box. The fixture mounting bracket is attached to the star plate, and the star plate is attached to the ceiling.
