Very good headphones - that's my honest opinion!

I recently bought these headphones having disposed of a pair that disappointed me from another well-known brand. These Sony headphones are far, far better particularly in comfort and battery life. Sound qualkity is excellent - I don't play bass-heavy dance tracks (too old!) but no complaints with the overall sound quality for the music to which I listen. The noise-cancelling function is excellent - I often sit with them on, without music playing, to isolate myself from some TV programmes my wife is watching. So, a great product from Sony. Practical, Comfortable, Budget ANC Headphones

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These feel like a more basic, no-frills Sony pair. Lightweight, adjustable and foldable and come with a 3.5mm cable only. Pairing is straightforward out of the box and the Sony Connect app handles EQ and basic settings cleanly. The simple click buttons are conveniently placed and easy to navigate and control including volume adjustment, handling calls and switching between the ANC and AMB sounds. As with most modern headphones, two devices can be paired at the same time and switching between both is seamless and smooth. I use the headphones mainly while commuting and while gaming using both the wireless and wired options. When out and about, the ANC will reduce noise but won't block it out completely which is expected for the price range but the sound quality is what makes them stand out for their value. Although they don't have a deep bass, they still produce a very decent crisp and clear sound even on calls. When gaming and connected to the PS5 controller, I go for hours and forget I'm wearing them due to their light weight and comfortable padding and the sound is quite decent even with a wired connection. Overall the headphones are practical and good value for the features they include. The ANC is not the best but competent enough for travel and daily use. If you're looking for a more feature packed pair then the higher ranged ones will be more suitable but for the price range, features, build and comfort of these, you can't go wrong for a simple out of the box pair of headphones.

    Good music guaranteed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These headphones are extremely comfortable and will ride easily on a long plane/Coach/Car journey. up to 50 hours is promised but so far I have not even got near to running out of power. The ability to do a very quick re-charge is also a bonus, whether from an available USB C socket or even a portable charger. Here a 3 minute charge grabs you another hour of excellent quality music but you really must try Sony Sound Connect to get the best out of them...and it really is both flexible and quality generating.

The ability to fold them to around half their size is also very helpful. The process works easily and feels secure.

Connection is easy with both Bluetooth and a cable (provided) for pairing and sharing. The various connection opportunities are numerous and quick.

Sound quality is very good and totally adjustable to suit all tastes with Sony Sound Connect. Noise cancelling also provides extra comfort when travelling.

All in all a good choice. Choose a colour and try these out: a good price, brilliant spec and comfortable satisfaction.

The Everyday Headphone with Fantastic Battery Life

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve owned previous generations of mid priced headphones of which the Sony WH-CH730N is the latest generation. It’s a very comfortable wear such that I’ve worn it for extended periods with no head fatigue. On the occasions I wore sunglasses the comfort was not impeded. The headphone is made from sturdy lightweight plastic. Light weight plastic usually does not make for an inspiring build quality but in use it was practical and sturdy on my head.

The WH-CH730N headphones came only with a cable for wired use. It was disappointing to see no USB-C charging cable nor any form of protective pouch was in the box. A sign of the times I guess.

I liked the physical tactile buttons for volume, call, and ambient/noise cancelling. I did not miss not having gesture controls.

Fast Pairing technology worked well on my android devices. The headphone via the Sony Sound Connect app can connect up to two devices at a time. However I found when I used additional (android) devices I would get a prompt indicating that the headphone could be connected.

As for the sound quality, the WH-CH730N (to my ears) leaned towards a warm sound balance. That is to say that bass frequencies are emphasised with the high frequencies a little restrained. I prefer the high frequencies to have a bit more sparkle and this is where the 10 band equaliser (on the Sony Sound Connect app) came in handy for producing a tailored sound. The sound stage to me felt a little narrow although it did not take away from my enjoyment of listening to music or podcasts.

Both the ambient and noise cancelling modes boosted the bass frequencies in comparison to having both modes off. Interestingly, the button on the headphone by default toggles between ambient and noise cancellation. However, the Sound Connect app allows ‘off’ to be added to the toggle. This is a useful way to save power and get the maximum runtime out of the headphone.

Noise cancelling is not on par with that provide with the 1000X series of headphones. It won’t block out voices but it can reduce them a little. I found it reduced background noise sufficiently to improve the clarity of music or podcasts during my travels on public transport. Ambient mode worked well even if there was a gentle breeze.

The WH-CH730N can be used wired with the headphone powered on or off. From my experience it is better to leave the headphone powered on as when it is off the sound is a little boxy and I found I needed to use the equaliser on the connected device to correct the sound (cut the some of the mid bass frequencies).

An interesting mode provided by the Sound Connect app was the Background Music mode. It essentially reduced the sound level and adds some ambience to make what I was listening to sound a little distant. In conjunction with the ambient mode, I found this mode very useful if I needed to remain alert to my name being called (like in a waiting room) but still wanted music or podcast playing in the background. Or, if concentrating on something and wanted music to set the ambience. I would have preferred this feature to be added directly on the headphone itself for ease of use.

Whether I'm using noise cancelling, ambient mode in associating with DSEE battery life remained great. Sony quote a typical battery life of 50 hours, with a maximum of 75 hours. I typically use the WH-CH730N for about 3 to 4 hours a day and it has been over a week since I last gave it a charge. There is a Battery Care mode that can be activated in the Sound Connect app to maintain the health of the headphone's battery for as long as possible.

    Neat and compact

Bought these as a replacement to an older model of Sony Headphones now over 10 years old and worn on the foam ear pieces. First thing that struck me about these is the size - a little smaller than I am used to so made for a tighter fit, but overall did not compromise on comfort or sound quality. I am a huge lover of live music and this can be distorted by some headphones. Happy to say these were near perfect, with just the right level of bass. Battery lasted a good age, and recharging was very easy.

    mid range feature rich headphones

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using these headphones at every opportunity as I like their lightness the soft cushions these features make them suitable for long listening sessions without fatigue. Great clean sound when used with the Sony app equaliser. Good for films and music. I use DSEE and 360 Reality so good these phones use both. Noise cancelling not bad not brilliant with speech. I like the wired option. Physical buttons are ok for this level. Excellent battery life plus fast charging. Great thinking putting large letters L and R on the ear covers so much easier to read.

    Great Over Ear Headphones.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are my first pair of over-ear Sony headphones, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I've been using them for about two weeks now and I'm really pleased with these headphones. They look good, feel well made and are light enough to wear comfortably. The buttons are also easy to use without having to think too much about which one does what.

Getting them connected to my phone was straightforward and setting them up with the Sony Sound Connect app was just as easy.

Sound quality was important to me, as I like a good, deep bass when listening to music. After playing around with the equaliser in the app, I managed to get the sound just how I like it, without losing the clarity. I listen to all sorts of music as well as podcasts, so it's handy being able to change the settings to suit what I'm listening to.

I've been using them at the gym too, and they're comfortable even through a full workout. They're so lightweight that I don't find them cumbersome, and it's easy to forget I'm wearing them.

The noise cancelling makes a real difference in the gym, helping me concentrate on my music rather than the noise around me. It's also good to have the option to turn it down when I need to hear what's going on. When walking outside, I can let more of the surrounding sound in, including traffic and conversations.

I've had a look at some of the extra features in the Sound Connect app, including Adaptive Sound Control. This can adjust the noise cancelling or ambient sound depending on whether I'm walking, running or travelling. There's also a location feature that can change the settings automatically when I arrive somewhere I've registered, such as home or the gym. I probably haven't explored everything the app can do yet, but it's nice to have those options.

Battery life has been very good so far. I've been using them regularly over the last two weeks without feeling that I'm constantly having to charge them. The supplied audio cable is another useful addition. I mainly listen over Bluetooth, but it's good to have a wired option if I need it.

They also fold away, which makes storing them easier, they take up less room in my bag when travelling and not using them.

Overall, I'm very pleased with these headphones. They work well for what I need, whether that's listening to music at the gym, enjoying a podcast or relaxing at home. The sound can be adjusted to my taste, they're comfortable to wear, and there are plenty of useful features without the headphones being complicated to use.

Based on my experience so far, I'd happily recommend them.

    Very, very good headphones!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A very, very good product. Comfortable to wear, easy to use and, best of all. with excellent sound quality. I've not owned headphones for some while after a disappointing experience with another brand. So when i saw the excellent reviews in certain hi-fi publications for the WH-CH730N I thought I would buy. They've lived up to my expectations!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After spending some time with the Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones, I can say they offer an impressive combination of comfort, sound quality, and practical features at a very competitive price point.

    Unboxing Experience

The headphones arrive in a compact, well-presented box with Sony's familiar clean and professional packaging. Inside, you'll find the headphones neatly protected, a USB-C charging cable, warranty information, and a quick-start guide. The unboxing experience is straightforward and hassle-free, allowing you to get up and running within minutes. Sony keeps unnecessary packaging to a minimum, which is always a welcome touch.

    Design and Build Quality

The WH-CH730N features a sleek, modern design that looks both stylish and understated. The matte finish gives the headphones a premium appearance despite being lightweight and affordable. The ear cups are generously padded with soft cushioning, and the adjustable headband provides a comfortable fit for a variety of head sizes.

One of the standout aspects is how light they feel when worn. Even during extended listening sessions, the headphones remain comfortable without creating excessive pressure on the ears or head.

    Ease of Use

Setting up and using the headphones is incredibly simple. The control buttons are conveniently located on the ear cup, making it easy to adjust volume, skip tracks, answer calls, and activate voice assistants without reaching for your phone.

The buttons provide good tactile feedback, so it's easy to learn the controls after only a short period of use.

    Bluetooth Pairing

Pairing the WH-CH730N with Bluetooth devices is quick and reliable. The headphones entered pairing mode immediately when powered on for the first time, and my smartphone detected them within seconds.

Connection stability has been excellent, with no noticeable dropouts during everyday use. Pairing with multiple devices is straightforward, making it easy to switch between a phone, tablet, or laptop when needed.

    Sony Connect App

Downloading and setting up the Sony Headphones Connect app significantly enhances the overall experience. The app is available on both Android and iOS and connects to the headphones almost instantly.

    Within the app, users can:

    Adjust the equaliser settings.

    Customise noise cancelling levels.

    Enable ambient sound modes.

    Monitor battery life.

    Update firmware.

Fine-tune sound preferences to suit different music genres.

The interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy for both beginners and experienced users to customise their listening experience.

    Sound Quality and Listening Experience

This is where the WH-CH730N truly shines. The sound profile is balanced, with clear vocals, detailed mids, and a surprisingly rich bass response without overwhelming the rest of the audio.

Whether listening to music, podcasts, audiobooks, or watching films, the headphones deliver a consistently enjoyable experience. The active noise cancelling effectively reduces background noise such as traffic, office chatter, and household sounds, allowing you to focus more on your content.

Battery life is excellent, making these headphones ideal for commuting, travelling, or all-day use. Call quality is also clear, with voices sounding natural during both phone and video calls.

    Overall Verdict

The Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones offer outstanding value for money. They combine comfortable all-day wear, solid noise cancellation, simple Bluetooth connectivity, a highly useful Sony Connect app, and impressive sound quality into one affordable package.

    Cons:

Build materials feel more practical than premium

Noise cancellation is good but not flagship-level

    Rating: 4.5/5

For anyone looking for reliable wireless noise cancelling headphones without spending premium flagship prices, the Sony WH-CH730N is an easy recommendation that delivers far more than expected for its price range.

    Great set of headphones.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent set of headphones. Very easy to set up and was connected in a flash. Nice and comfortable. Noise cancelling works well and even at full volume other people in the same room couldn't hear my music. Headphones fold away nicely. Shame no case is included especially for the price but that doesnt take anything away from the headphones themselves.

  12. Arvosana 5/5

    Very smart sound with comfort

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The WH-CH730N has been very comfortable (Extra soft cushioning to ears and head bar) to wear even on longer walks etc. and is very light weight. Sound is crystal clear as you would expect from a Sony product, Noise cancelling is brilliant when you want to block out background noise which might stop you enjoying your listening time. The fold flat design makes storage in your bag easy. Bluetooth connection is also very good and you can even check the charge left by pressing the on button briefly whilst listening.

    Sony WH-CH730N Noise Cancelling Headphones.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones have a very robust build quality, another great feature is that these headphones fold completely flat so they’re ideal for popping into a rucksack, briefcase or handbag. I found a linen drawstring bag to keep mine in.

The battery life seems pretty good, I’ve been using them for a week and I’m still on the first charge.

I tend to use headphones with my mobile to listen to music and podcasts or watching T.V. in bed. I found these headphones produced a warm embracing sound with the appropriate Sound Connect equaliser selected.

On left side there’s a USB-C port and 3.5mm port for wired connection there’s also an on/off switch which is also for pairing.

On the right side is the volume control, playback button, and the noise cancelling/ambient sound switch.

Transitioning from music or TV to answering incoming and making outgoing calls while using the headphones is seamless.

The Sound Connect app is excellent and made pairing with my phone and TV easy.

I have a couple of niggles: the noise cancelling isn’t total, I could still hear external noise albeit at low level and there was no usb C charging lead or travel case supplied.
