Sony 1000X THE COLLEXION noise cancelling headphones, platinum

I bought these for a present absolutely fantastic buy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first impression on opening the carry case was seeing immediately the high quality of the headset. It looked fantastic with polished metal parts machined to a very high standard and the faux leather ear pieces add that certain feel of quality and luxury.

The charging of the headset was easily done via the USB ‘C’ cable and, as I use my mobile for music normally, I paired the headset to my mobile with no problems. It was a simple procedure of pressing the power button on the headset, turn on ‘bluetooth’ on your phone or whatever your music is stored on and the pairing happens automatically. It helps to install the ‘Sound Connect App’ before starting the pairing. I had it installed already because I have various items I use the app for. I am retired now but still found the headset and instructions very easy to understand.

When I put on the headset I was very pleased that my ears fitted inside the cups easily because I normally have trouble with fitting headsets but this time it was a perfect fit and very comfortable to wear. The faux leather finish was ideal and gave the headset the ‘premium look’. However, a minor point is that I am not sure how the faux leather will stand up to repeated use in all conditions. I think cleaning may be a problem after a few years use, but time will tell.

The overall sound quality is simply superb. Without doubt, the best sound quality I have ever heard from any headset I’ve ever owned and I have owned may over the years. The noise cancelling is very effective and enables the listener to be completely cut off from the outside world while being fully immersed in the music being played. I listen to a lot of classical music and the clarity is second to none. Individual instruments playing are clearly heard and vocals are as realistic as if the sound source is right in front of you. I also do lots of walking and found that this headset is ideal when out and about in the countryside and the long battery life is handy when away from home.

The ability to control various functions such as Play/Pause, Skip Tracks, Increase and decrease volume is provided on the touch sensor control panel. These functions are quite easy to master after a few minutes of practice and full instructions are given in the Quick Start Guide /Sound Connect App for these and numerous other functions.

Many may think that the 1000X The Collection may seem very expensive, for what essentially is, a pair of headphones. However, you pay for what you get and in this case unmatched sound quality and another prime quality product from Sony. So if you are really into your music this is the perfect product for you.

Excellent headphones. Sound quality is fantastic and superb build quality. Only one minor niggle is using pu leather on the earcups. Lamb skin leather would be icing on the cake.

Just arrived, unpacked, and switched on, and I was turned on in more ways than one.

The sound quality is exceptional and seems to get better the longer I listen switching between Bad Bunny, Jungle - Back on 74. Sony has really refined what a premium pair of headphones should deliver. The audio is detailed, balanced, and immersive, with a level of finesse that stands out even compared to previous generations. The addition of the Upmix feature is a welcome enhancement, and the materials used throughout give the headset a genuinely premium feel. I just love the sensitivity and how light it is to control the volume. Build quality, comfort, and sound all come together to create a product that feels every bit worth the investment.

Was in two minds about whether to buy now or wait for the price to drop, but having spent some time with them, I'm glad I didn't. This is a long-term purchase that I expect to enjoy for years to come. I'm very happy with this investment. That said, my trusty XM4s aren't going anywhere just yet—they've earned their place and remain a fantastic pair of headphones in their own right.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Having owed the AM4, XM5 and now the 1000X series i can certainly say that sony has improved on a few things. From the comfort to the style & sound quality. An elegant style with a premium feel being lightweight and comfortable. Excellent active noise cancellation which is a major upgrade in my opinion from the XM4 and 5's. The padding on the ear cups feel better for long periods of listening whilst gaming, listening to music or watching a movies as for me the XM4's and often than not the 5's made my ears sweat with long listening times. I mainly use these to listen to music whilst im in the gym or on the go having no interruptions from the outside world. That being said, the Ambient activation makes hearing the outside noises of the world more clear and more aware of your surroundings. The 30mm drivers are impressive as always from the XM family delivering, clear crisp sounds with great bass. The carry case is a nice improvement also from the old zip carry case to the new magnetic clip like style which i prefer over the older models. The battery life is also impressive with an average listening time of 24 hours to a whopping 32 hours with ANC disabled. My preference is ANC alway's active. I do wish the earcups could fold away like the Xm4's amd 5's and i was surprised they didn't come with a charger cable. That being said they do deliver in an excellent fashion/style along side with crisp sounds and amazing sounds quilty/bass. All you need in an amazing pair of high quality headphones and i feel sony has delivered just that. An amazing, exceptional bit of musical art.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The prettiest headphones I have seen, sometimes when you see something so nice you know you will love it. Even the carry case is beautifully designed with a tactile feel every time the catch is lifted but the headphones themselves are just so beautifully designed & made.

So how do they perform, as per previous Sony headphones you can just turn them on, do a one time bluetooth sync and they work great, lovely rich sound without much setup straight out of the box...a really nice box!!! 
Once the first couple of uses are done you are missing out of a lot of functionality if you don't download the Sony headphone app "Sound Connect" Take some time with this as you will only then realise the listening experience can be fine tuned to your lifestyle uses.
There are two things which I dislike, I don't like the feel of the chrome/silver buttons when they are operated..it's hard to tell if they have actually done something. My only other minus is the call quality, the incoming sound can feel a bit muffled at times, but I am working on the setup to try & improve this.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's not often I get amazed by headphones, but the Collexion 1000xx are simply put, absolutely worlds apart from ones I've used before.

Let's start with the fundamentals, the build quality is superb, replacing the plastic and metal headwear & hinge assembly with an all metal head rail coupled with metal hinge assembly, all completed with a stunning polished finish. This is paired with an ultra soft headband for a very comfy fit, after hours of use there is not strain or pressure on the head, which can happen often with over ear headphones. The ear cups are finished with a faux leather covering, giving that little bit more luxury look and feel, to an already overall more finished product.

Inside the cups are a pair of angled 30mm new drivers made of carbon composite materials, all behind a soft cloth protection screen.

The ear cups sizing slide is smooth and firm without clickyness or stiffness, the metal rails helping the correct size stay true.

The recycled packaging is of course present and as with all (I believe) Sony products, there is no plastics in any of the packaging yet it's robust and well finished.

The headphones are presented in a very nice carry case shaped for easy use and transportation, finished in a colour matched fabric style material. It's a very functional and eye catching design.

Obviously the sound quality is what's most important with any headphones and these aren't lacking at all.

Upon setting them up and loading my playlist of lossless music covering a wide range from Metallica to Richard Wagner, it was much of the same as any hi end headphones. I set up DSEE ultimate to push non lossless music up in quality, a tool that I feel works better on over ear headphones Vs in ear buds. I set up the connection to prioritise quality over range (obviously some would need higher range but nice to have the option) and of course manually choosing LDAC on the connection codec in order to hear lossless music as intended. Everyone should check they are connected in LDAC Vs AAC, it's night and day difference.

Whilst listening I found the music pleasant, with a natural shallow V shape in equaliser sound, a little warm with a very wide stage, much wider than I'd noticed previously. It was at this point I turned on 360 upmix.. and that wide sound stage came alive!

All of the sudden the instruments had better separation & the voices had a slight echo that surrounded all around me, it was simply stunning and without any degradation you'd expect from this kind of digital sound manipulation.

The upmix options are music, movies, game with a custom option added for background listening.

I found movies mode enhanced bass that little bit better and kept the V shape to music I enjoy with classical, dance & metal. Music mode sounds much better I might add with pop style songs, emphasising synth and voices better.

I suppose I would liken it to the added boost that ult speakers add with ult modes, it adds that surrounded alive sound in music, like Atmos, but for all music (though it sounds even more spectacular with Atmos or spatial audio) giving music life and feel, noticing little nuances in voices or instruments you've not really noticed before.

On the whole, it's hard to find anything but positives about the Collexion headphones, with brilliance found all round, from luxury build quality, to one of the most superb listening experiences I've ever had.
