Comfortable headphones
I bought these because I wanted headphones that would be comfortable to wear for long periods of time while shutting out external noises as much as possible. I was not disappointed on that end.
Places tested:
- Airplane - about 6 hours total
- Train - about 80 minutes
- Bus - 2 hours
The good parts:
Noise cancellation: the headphones sit around the ears very well and block out external sounds. When turning them on, the noise cancellation feature drowns out external sounds even further, making it feel like suddenly there's a void around your ears. This feature worked better than I expected.
Sound: the sound quality is good enough for most people. You wouldn't be buying these headphones if you wanted recording studio sound quality. For general purpose usage, these provide as good a sound quality as anyone could ask for. Good bass support, clean sound, which when coupled with the NC feature makes these headphones a good choice.
Material quality: the material feels good and comfortable to wear for long periods of time without causing discomfort or pain in or around the ears. I had the headphones on occasionally for nearly 3 hours without a break and I did not experience any physical discomfort or pain.
The one bad part about these is that even when using the wired listening mode, the headphones still have to be powered on, which consumes battery. The cable has a 3.5mm standard audio jack on one end, but a USB-C connector on the other end. The USB-C one goes into the headphones. I found this really bizarre and unexpected. For this, alongside the overall high price, I decided to subtract a star. I expected to have the ability to listen with them using the cable, so that it wouldn't consume any battery power. I think this is a strange design choice by JBL. The battery life is very long, of course, so maybe to you this doesn't matter. After all, you could use them several hours a day and still only have to charge maybe twice a month. So make this decision for yourself.
Additionally, I bought these as part of a Verkkokauppa sale campaign, which reduced the price from 129 to 79. I would never have bought these for 129. At the time of writing this review, I see that the campaign has supposedly ended but the price remained at 79, so looks like that was just a trick by Verkkokauppa.
Overall: 4 stars. I think even 80 euros is a bit high for these, but not terrible. If you can find them at a lower price, then great.
