Verkkokauppa.com launched its services in Swedish and English – aiming for more accessible online shopping in an increasingly multilingual Finland

Press Release July 22, 2026

Verkkokauppa.com has taken a significant step toward a more accessible customer experience: the company's website and key customer journey services are now available in Swedish and English in addition to Finnish. The update covers the entire shopping experience, from product pages to order confirmations.

Finland's largest online retailer now offers a complete shopping experience in Swedish and English. For customers, the new language options mean better service and the ability to make even more informed purchasing decisions.

"Over 610,000 people in Finland speak a native language other than Finnish or Swedish, and that number is growing rapidly. Add to that approximately 290,000 Swedish speakers, and you have a significant group of customers who have had to rely on translation tools when shopping online," says Verkkokauppa.com's Sales Director Pekka Litmanen.

Previously, browser-based translations could lead to difficult or even misleading shopping experiences. In some cases, customers didn't feel confident making a purchase at all.

"When using browser translators, product descriptions get distorted, terms and conditions remain unclear, and return rights can be ambiguous. We decided that simply wasn't good enough," Litmanen notes.

In the first phase, multilingual support is visible at key points in Verkkokauppa.com's customer journey, such as product pages, availability information, and order communications.

The overall experience will be developed in stages based on customer feedback and user experiences.

"We use AI-powered tools combined with human quality assurance in our translation work. This combination enables scalable translation of large volumes while ensuring that customer-facing content is clear and reliable."

Language options support responsible retail and international growth

According to Litmanen, serving customers in their own language isn't just a technical update for Verkkokauppa.com—it's also a strategic and societal move.

"If domestic retailers can't serve customers in their own language, they'll turn to foreign stores. That means lost jobs, tax revenue, and competitiveness for domestic retail, which we work to build every day. Language options are part of how Finnish retail stays vibrant and relevant," Litmanen explains.

The bigger picture goal is to make online shopping equally accessible to everyone living in Finland.

"Beyond customer experience, multilingual support is part of our broader social responsibility. We want to help build a Finland where everyone can make everyday purchases in their own language."

Verkkokauppa.com's international sales already amount to tens of millions of euros, and strategically, the language options also lay the groundwork for the company's international expansion.

"Multilingual service is now available in Finland, and at the same time we're building capabilities to serve consumer customers internationally under the Verk.com brand," Litmanen says.
