Consumers are holding onto everyday luxury and wellness-supporting products, according to recent data from Verkkokauppa.com. More Finns are now cutting back on services to invest in high-quality, long-lasting home appliances. Popular items include automatic coffee machines, hair stylers, home automation, and versatile multi-purpose appliances.
Specialty coffees and hairstyling are increasingly moving into the home, a shift in consumer habits reflected in the rising demand for small appliances.
Coffee machines and kettles were particularly popular when Verkkokauppa.com, Finland's most visited webstore, analyzed customer behavior in the home appliance category.
”People clearly want to hold onto small everyday joys and familiar routines. Sales of espresso machines alone have grown by nearly 50% in volume. It seems more people are skipping expensive takeaway coffees and investing that money into their own coffee machine,” says Verkkokauppa.com Category Manager Matti Maunuksela.
The speed and convenience of a café are also being sought for other kitchen tasks, with space-saving 2-in-1 appliances becoming more common.
“For compact urban homes, there are products that replace two or even three separate devices. A great example is the combination of popular air fryers and traditional microwaves,” Maunuksela explains.
Demand for small appliances that support physical and mental well-being is also on the rise.
According to Verkkokauppa.com, hair styling tools have been in high demand recently, but products supporting holistic health monitoring, such as bathroom scales and blood pressure monitors, are also selling well.
”Home barbering, the recovery and wellness megatrend, and cutting back on professional body care services are reflected in the sales of massage guns, massagers, electric blankets, and devices like trimmers and IPL hair removal tools,” Maunuksela adds.
“Hey Siri, open the living room curtains” – automation grows to save time in everyday life
In home automation, products that offer concrete time savings and automate small, repetitive daily tasks are particularly interesting.
People want to outsource cleaning, and traditional vacuum cleaners are giving way to versatile cordless and robot vacuums.
”Automating tasks that previously required manual effort is an easy way to create a hotel-like atmosphere at home. In addition to the smart lights and plugs many already know, our selection now includes items like remote-controlled curtain tracks,” says Sourcing Manager for Home and Lighting, Juha Harju .
When it’s time to buy a new appliance, Harju notes that purchase decisions are more conscious than ever. Comparing products, reading reviews, checking energy labels, and ensuring the device fits the existing interior and smart home system are key parts of the process.
”Home appliances are no longer hidden in the back of a cupboard; they are allowed to be a visible part of modern daily life. Fortunately, new technology, stylish design, and compact form are no longer mutually exclusive – quite the opposite.”
