Verkkokauppa.com revamps its online store: ”We want shopping with us to be so easy and inspiring that there’s really no reason to go anywhere else.”

Press release, May 4, 2023

Established in 1992 and now Finland's most popular online retailer, Verkkokauppa.com is redesigning its website this spring. These structural and visual updates aim to provide a more seamless shopping experience.Verkkokauppa.com attracts approximately one million monthly visitors. Over the past 30 years, our product range has expanded significantly, leading to an increasingly diverse customer base. We are now updating our online store to better serve these evolving needs.

"Verkkokauppa.com started as a shop for computer enthusiasts. Today, our site is also home to home cooks, cycling enthusiasts, and drone hobbyists. We want to be the primary destination for everyone—a place so easy and inspiring to use that there’s no need to look elsewhere," says Business Development Lead at Verkkokauppa.comAnton Paasi.

The redesign focuses on improving product discoverability and highlighting our extensive range, with the most significant changes appearing in the site navigation.

"Customer testing revealed that some products were getting lost within our massive selection. We’re addressing this by streamlining our navigation; all products and subcategories will now be grouped under clear, descriptive themes. This gives customers an immediate overview of everything we offer," Paasi explains.

The online store will also feature new tools to aid decision-making, a clearer layout, and a refreshed visual style. "We’re introducing engaging content highlights for current campaigns, services, and buying guides to bring the site to life and assist customers. Our experts will have a stronger online presence, sharing more shopping tips than ever before. We’re also integrating customer reviews directly into product descriptions to ensure transparency and support the buying process," Paasi adds.

Consumer research: The combination of physical stores and e-commerce remains strong

In spring 2022, Verkkokauppa.com conducted a consumer study* to support its development efforts, mapping the buying motives, needs, and preferences of Finnish consumers. The results showed that shoppers still prefer a combination of brick-and-mortar stores and e-commerce.

"Customers still value seeing a product in person and taking it home immediately, which is why physical stores remain popular. However, the role of the online store has become critical during the comparison phase, as most purchasing decisions are now made before the customer even enters the store," says Sales Director at Verkkokauppa.comPekka Litmanen.

Verkkokauppa.com is actively developing its omnichannel customer experience, and this website redesign is a vital part of that strategy.

"We are constantly looking for ways to serve our customers more efficiently. The launch of our Vaihtokauppa service, fast deliveries, an extensive store network, and local warehouses all share a single goal: a satisfied customer," Litmanen concludes.

*Verkkokauppa.com conducted a consumer study to map the buying motives, needs, and preferences of Finnish consumers. The study was carried out as an online survey targeting a representative sample of the Finnish population. Data was collected via the Norstat panel between March 4 and March 14, 2022, with a total of 2,027 respondents.
