Press release, 1 September 2022

Verkkokauppa.com is introducing a new pickup locker at its Helsinki store, allowing customers to collect their orders during store opening hours. The system features 212 lockers and has a theoretical capacity of up to 2,000 deliveries per day.Verkkokauppa.com is launching a pickup locker at its Helsinki store alongside the pickup counter, starting September 5, 2022.

"Pickup congestion has been a challenge for some time. With the pickup locker, we’re offering the easiest and fastest pickup method possible—it’s time to say goodbye to queues," says Verkkokauppa.com Process ManagerMarkus Pätilä.

The pickup locker is located on the second floor of the Helsinki store, next to the pickup counter. Orders can be collected during store opening hours using the locker opening button found in your Verkkokauppa.com customer Tili. The opening code is also sent via SMS and email.

Overall, the new pickup locker is part of Verkkokauppa.com's commitment to improving the customer experience.

"In e-commerce, timely and fast delivery is essential, and we want to provide our customers with the world's fastest delivery experience. The pickup locker will face a real acid test during the busy autumn season," says Verkkokauppa.com Sales DirectorPekka Litmanen.

212 lockers handling up to 2,000 deliveries a day—how is that even possible?

Verkkokauppa.com's pickup locker brings a new level of performance to deliveries: the system has 212 compartments and a theoretical capacity of up to 2,000 deliveries per day.

"The pickup locker provides over two hundred new self-service points, allowing customers to visit at their convenience," Pätilä explains.

Orders can be ready for pickup in as little as 15 minutes.

"Our main warehouse is located at the Helsinki store, where our AutoStore automation system can pick up to a thousand products per hour. Products travel from the warehouse via an automated conveyor to the back of the locker. Because the locker is filled from the rear, the workflow between the warehouse and restocking is seamless," says Pätilä.

The pickup locker is also a positive development for employees, allowing them to better balance their time between order processing and customer service.

Verkkokauppa.com’s partners Posti and Punta were involved in the design of the pickup locker.More information
