Verkkokauppa.com surveyed over a thousand Finns* to identify the best products and brands of 2021. Sony emerged as the most respected consumer electronics brand, while the PlayStation 5 was named the most valued electronics product. Iisalmi-based Genelec took the top spot as the most respected domestic brand. Finns voted Samsung’s foldable smartphone as the trendsetter of the year, and the Xiaomi Mi electric scooter was named the most exciting hit product.
According to a recent survey by Verkkokauppa.com, Finland’s largest e-commerce retailer, Finns value Apple most for smartphones and watches, Miele for home appliances, and LEGO for toys.
Sony rose to become the most trusted consumer electronics brand. Additionally, Finns ranked Sony’s wireless noise-canceling headphones as the best in their category and the PlayStation 5 as the year’s most superior electronics product.
“Gaming’s popularity grows every year. For many, Sony is a trusted partner in entertainment and gaming, known for classics like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Gran Turismo. While our parents might have invested in motorcycles, the current generation prefers to invest in gaming by purchasing consoles and flat-screen TVs,” says Seppo Niemelä, Marketing and Communications Director at Verkkokauppa.com.
Genelec is the most respected domestic brand among Finns. According to Niemelä, Genelec’s popularity is driven by excellent serviceability, timelessly understated design, and, above all, the brand’s focus on its core mission: high-quality audio.
“Hailing from a small Finnish town, Genelec is considered one of the world’s best speaker manufacturers. Their speakers are found on Kanye West’s tour riders and at the mixing desks of the world’s top professionals. The fact that all Genelec devices are still manufactured and serviced in Iisalmi adds significantly to their prestige,” Niemelä says.
Finns named the Xiaomi Mi electric scooter the most exciting hit product of the year. In the sports category, the Giant Trance electric mountain bike was the most respected. Niemelä notes that the popularity of electric vehicles is driving a broader shift in mobility.
“The rental electric scooters that broke through a few years ago really got Finns excited about electric mobility. Owning your own scooter is no longer a major expense, as prices have dropped rapidly and there is plenty of choice. High-quality electric bicycles have challenged other light vehicles thanks to advanced technology, attracting not only regular cyclists but even those who previously would have headed to a motorcycle dealership,” Niemelä states.
