Online shopping has surged since the pandemic, and consumer behavior is shifting across the board. According to Verkkokauppa.com sales data, even large appliances—traditionally bought in-store—are now increasingly purchased online.
Last year saw strong online growth even in unexpected categories like large appliances. Verkkokauppa.com predicts this is no temporary trend, but a lasting shift in how people buy major household goods.
“Consumers are clearly becoming bolder when shopping online, regardless of the product. For example, online sales of refrigerators and freezers doubled last year compared to the year before. Similarly, microwave sales nearly tripled,” says Verkkokauppa.com Commercial Director Vesa Järveläinen.
The growing popularity of online shopping is driven by both current circumstances and the ease of the experience.
“The web enables a true turnkey service. For instance, appliances can be delivered quickly from a local warehouse. Customers can also add installation, removal of old appliances, and recycling to their order. Smaller items can even be delivered to your door on the same day via express delivery,” Järveläinen says.
Popularity of installation services continues to grow
Demand for appliance home delivery and installation services grew significantly during the end of the year.
“From July to December last year, appliance home deliveries increased by 43% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, installation service orders grew by 25%,” says Verkkokauppa.com Purchasing Manager Pasi Syyli.
Consumers prioritize practicality and durability when choosing appliances.
“Practicality is key, and smart features that simplify daily life are increasingly popular. Durability is a top priority, though customers also pay close attention to aesthetics and design,” Syyli concludes.
To meet growing demand, Verkkokauppa.com has expanded its appliance range with high-quality Miele products. You can find the full Miele selection on our website.
