True Wireless earbuds, massage guns, and weighted hula hoops – Verkkokauppa.com lists the year's rising stars.

Press release, 14 December 2019

Voted Finland's best online store*, Verkkokauppa.com has listed the year's biggest rising stars in electronics and equipment. These are the products Finns truly fell in love with in 2019.

According to Verkkokauppa.com, True Wireless earbuds have seen the biggest growth this year. Demand has skyrocketed by over 220 percent.

Alongside the category leader, Apple AirPods, a wide range of competitors from brands like Happy Plugs, JBL, Under Armour, and ProCaster has emerged. The main appeal of True Wireless earbuds for consumers is their complete lack of wires.

“The lack of wires makes these headphones superior for sports, driving, and working. The expanding range of True Wireless models has effectively wiped out demand for Bluetooth earbuds with neck cables,” says Verkkokauppa.com's Commercial Director Vesa Järveläinen.

According to Järveläinen, demand for smart speakers within the audio category is set to grow even further in 2020. Smart speakers appeal to consumers because they integrate seamlessly with other smart home devices and offer features beyond music, such as phone calls and calendar reminders.

Massage guns, weighted hula hoops, and electric scooters: the year's other big trends

Various wellness and fitness tools also saw steady growth in popularity throughout 2019. Massage guns and weighted hula hoops emerged as the top trends toward the end of the year.

Originally used in physiotherapy clinics before entering the consumer market, massage guns are used for recovery after intense workouts. Weighted hula hoops, designed to activate the core, also became a phenomenon in Finland.

According to Verkkokauppa.com, electric scooter sales also surged this year, up 160 percent from the previous year.

“Rental services have helped establish electric scooters as a standard form of modern urban mobility. In contrast, hoverboards turned out to be a passing fad and are no longer even sold. As legislation regarding rental services continues to evolve, more people are choosing to invest in their own scooter,” Järveläinen explains.
