The sound quality of the MDR-MV1 was every bit as good as I had expected. The sound was clear, detailed and natural, and in terms of audio performance I had no particular complaints.

Unfortunately, the wearing comfort was a completely different matter. I bought these headphones with the intention of using them for extended periods, but I found them so uncomfortable that after only about ten minutes I already wanted to take them off. This was not simply a minor discomfort that became noticeable after several hours; it was apparent almost immediately and made prolonged use unrealistic for me.

This was particularly disappointing because comfort is extremely important for studio monitor headphones, which by their nature are likely to be worn continuously for long periods. Excellent sound quality is of limited value if the headphones become uncomfortable so quickly that you do not want to keep wearing them.

I genuinely wanted to keep the MDR-MV1 because I was satisfied with their sound, but ultimately the poor fit and wearing comfort outweighed their excellent audio performance. Regrettably, I therefore decided to return them.

These are really comfortable, lightweight open back headphones that carry a lovely amount of bass. For me the treble needed taming. I use these for everyday while working (not as a sound engineer) and I forget i’m wearing them. I have them connected to a quedlux 5k portable bac/amp which allows me to eq it - not that it needs much at all. I’m a little treble sensitive so I reduced the 6k slightly. Immersed is sound. I did a lot of research and tried other headphones. The only downside for me is the length of the cable. It’s a great cable but very long. I wish Sony sold a shorter one.
