Theatre Trio: impressive film sound
Arvosana 5/5[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The BRAVIA Theatre Trio is a three-piece front system: a low-profile center speaker and left and right columns that can sit beside the TV or hang on the supplied wall mounts.
The speakers feel solid and well weighted. The side speakers link wirelessly to the center unit, but all three still need a wall socket. In my setup the Trio is connected to a BRAVIA 7 II over HDMI eARC, not Bluetooth.
In the box you get a small remote for volume, bass, Voice mode and Sound Field. Sound Field switches the surround processing — including 360 Spatial Sound Mapping — on and off.
I tested the Trio with two very different sources. The first was Donnie Brasco (1997), streamed in the Sony Pictures Core app and the second was the Kaiju attack on Hong Kong in Pacific Rim (2013}, played from a 4K UHD disc.
With Sound Field on, the first meeting between Donnie and Lefty in the bar was a good test. Pacino and Depp’s dialogue stayed clear in the center, while you could still pick out other customers laughing and glasses clinking in the background. That extra layer of room sound was impressive. With Sound Field off, the same scene still sounded good, but it was flatter and a little quieter. The voices were fine; the bar around them shrank.
Next I put on Pacific Rim from 4K UHD and skipped to the Kaiju attack on Hong Kong. I only had time for that sequence — the living room is mid-decoration — but it’s a fair stress test: Jaeger machinery, explosions, big hits and a loud score. With Sound Field on, Gipsy Danger’s punches sounded meaty and the plasma-cannon hits on the Kaiju had real weight. As with Donnie Brasco, switching it off flattened the scene — less space, less punch — but that’s useful if you live in a flat and don’t want to rattle the neighbours late at night.
The BRAVIA Theatre Trio is a strong choice if you watch a lot of films on a big TV and want a wider, more cinematic front stage than a single soundbar.

Arvosana 5/5Review of the Sony Bravia Theatre Trio
I’ve been really impressed with the Sony BRAVIA Theatre Trio, and it genuinely feels like it upgraded my whole viewing and listening experience. From the moment I set it up, it sounded polished and “complete” rather than like something that was only okay for the price.
Calibration (key points)
Use the Sony smartphone app (BRAVIA Connect) to run calibration. The system’s setup and sound calibration are guided from the app, not just by buttons on the hardware.
Update both the speaker system software and the BRAVIA Connect app so calibration and other features work correctly.
USB Type-C microphone calibration:
The included USB Type-C microphone connects to your mobile device.
The calibration process measures key acoustic characteristics in your listening space, including things like frequency, phase, and delay, then tailors the audio output to your room.
Room-acoustic optimization (“Sound Field Optimization”):
The system analyses your room’s acoustic characteristics and then uses signal processing to adapt the sound to be more like a cinema experience.
Position-aware optimization (“best seat is where you are”):
During/through calibration in the app, the system can detect your position in the room and optimize sound so it works well from your seating area.
Run calibration as part of guided setup (out-of-the-box):
Sony’s setup flow includes calibration steps early in the process; don’t skip straight to playback without completing the guided calibration.
Connectivity (key points)
Start with the app-guided setup flow:
Sony emphasizes installing the BRAVIA Connect app on your smartphone and following its prompts to install and set up the Theatre Trio.
If you’re adding a device again, the app provides an “Add device” option after you update to the latest app version.
Main wiring uses HDMI for the centre speaker:
The centre unit connects via HDMI (so you can integrate it with your TV/AV setup cleanly).
Wireless links for the left/right speakers:
The front left and front right speakers connect wirelessly, reducing cable clutter.
Minimum steps to get going:
Sony’s described quick start is essentially power + one HDMI cable, after which the app guides the rest.
Guided setup from a QR code:
There’s a QR code in the box that takes you to the guided setup experience.
Placement flexibility:
The system supports free-standing or wall-mounted layouts-connectivity/calibration is still handled through the guided process.
One of the biggest strong points of the Sony Bravia Theatre Trio is how full the sound feels. The audio doesn’t just come from one direction—it fills the room in a way that makes movies, shows, and music feel more immersive. Dialog is clear and stays upfront, even when things get busy on screen. That makes a noticeable difference for me, because I don’t want to keep turning the volume up and down just to understand what people are saying.
The surround effect is another standout. It creates that wider soundstage where scenes feel more dynamic and layered. Effects don’t feel flat or distant—they feel placed around the space you are in, which makes action scenes more exciting and quieter moments more detailed. It’s the kind of sound that makes you forget you’re listening to a soundbar system and start focusing on what’s actually happening in the content.
I also love that it’s easy to live with. The setup process was straightforward, and once it was running, it felt consistent. I didn’t feel like I had to constantly tweak settings to get the best performance. Even when I’m switching between different types of content whether being movie, sports or just using the apps to watch your favourite content the sound still holds up on all of it.
Overall, the Sony BRAVIA Theatre Trio has strong points in the areas we all care about most: immersive sound, clear dialog, great detail, and a setup experience that didn’t turn into a hassle. If you want a home theatre-style upgrade that actually makes content feel more engaging, this system delivers all that you need.
key points:
- 4K 120hz VRR/ALLM/DSC/SBTM.
- BRAVIA Connect app for easy set up and control of your devices.
- Great sound straight out of the box.
- Wireless Front, Rear and sub set up nice and clean set up.
- Additional rear surround Speakers and Sub/s for the ultimate experience.
Sony have absolutely nailed it now with their TV and Audio set-ups all that are built to last.
Very Neat & Discreet
Arvosana 5/5[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This sound bar sits nicely in front of tv & front speakers on the floor at each side. Enhances the sound of tv, which already produces a great sound.
They are neat & do not distract the eye from the television screen.

Jafster119Arvostelu kirjoitettu sivustolla sony.comDon’t Buy!!!
Arvosana 1/5I bought the Trio system and what a nightmare!!! it’s been a month since I received it and work only for 3 days, this product it’s not ready yet.
-audio drop out, the system can’t decode lossless formats, everything is down mixing to lpcm, and it make a crackling noise, when the speakers are on or on standby you can hear a coil whine noise coming out of them, it’s affecting the earc handshake, and what really upset me is that i got Bravia 9 and the Trio who supposedly are Sony flagships, so now I lost stability with Dolby vision and Atmos, screen goes black no audio, so I decided to contact Sony after a week of chasing customer support, that was another nightmare! Sony sent me a return replacement and you know what , same issues back, but even more , do not buy this product it is not ready yet, i lost complete faith on Sony! I feel they sold me an half baked product.
