Comfortable padded compact carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I own several different carriers but find myself reaching for my Ergobaby Away carrier quite frequently since I got it. It’s lightweight while still well padded in the waist and shoulders, making it comfortable to carry my 22lb baby. The backpack-style straps make it super easy to get on and off. Also outer material is nylon, which is easy to clean and won’t ripe easily
It folds up easily into itself to be worn as a sling bag or in a small pouch. I will note that the instructions on how to fold the carrier into a sling aren’t super clear (at least to myself), so while I was able to make it work, I’m sure there are better ways to do so.
It’s worth noting that this carrier can only be used from about 4 months up, as there isn’t any way to adjust the seat for newborns. And it can only be used front facing inwards and for back carries - it can’t be used for front-facing outwards (which isn’t healthy for the hips for long periods of time anyway).
Overall a great carrier to stash in your car, stroller, or have around the house. I generously received this carrier as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
Excellent Compact and Lightweight Carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ergobaby Away Carrier is an excellent portable carrier for quick carries on the go. My second baby wants to be carried constantly, so I’ve invested in a ton of different carriers and wraps. This one is very comfortable and lightweight, and fits compactly in the attached zippered pouch so it’s easy to toss in my diaper bag. It’s lightly padded so I wouldn’t pick this one for a long hike, but it’s perfect to have in my bag all the time. I can pop it on quickly while running errands and it's a relief to have on hand when my baby has an unexpected meltdown. It took a few tries to get the hang of rolling and stuffing the carrier into the zippered pouch, but now I can do it pretty quickly. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier; it’s super convenient and I no longer have to haul around my other bulky carriers when I’m out and about!
Portable on the go carrier for busy moms
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] On the go moms or moms of multiples, this carrier is for you! I have 3 kids myself who are all age 5 and under with my youngest 7 months old. I always need to have my hands accessible. I really liked this carrier, not only for its compact features, but also how comfortable and lightweight it was to wear. I wore my baby while grocery shopping and even nursed her while we were walking through the store without anyone noticing! Nursing in this carrier is much easier, because the carrier material itself sits much lower on my chest for access; almost near the top of my belly button. Other carriers would have the material much higher on my chest, removing access to nurse. I would keep the carrier in my diaper bag, in the back of my SUV, around the handle of my stroller, or under the stroller while not in use. It barely took up any space! Due to the soft fabric, it also was not bulky when in its compact form. I preferred the front carry over the back hold as I felt like I couldn't always attend to my daughter's needs when she was on my back. I would recommend using this carrier once baby has strong head control given that it does not provide a high enough enclosure to support young babies with limited head and neck control. Overall, great lightweight product that is very easy and comfortable to use! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.
Lightweight and packable
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] To say this carrier is my new favorite baby item, is an understatement. I received the new Ergobaby Away carrier from Stellar Product Testing Panel and I have not used my other carriers since! It is so lightweight to wear, with still having padding to protect my shoulders and waist. The fact that It is so compact that It can fit into its own zippered pouch is the added bonus of all bonuses. It fits in my diaper bag or purse and it’s so easy for me to always have on hand. In love.
A Great Secondary Carrier For On The Go
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ergobaby Away works very well for its intended purpose. It is a lightweight carrier with an option to fold up and stow, wear crossbody, or around the waist while you’re out and about. This carrier was designed to be worn for short periods of time— a rush across the airport when little feet can’t keep up, walking into library story time when your hands are already full, or trying to get from the car to the doctor's office without lugging in a stroller or baby carrier.
The age range for this carrier is 4 months to 3 years old, or 12-35lbs. Baby needs to have good head support for wearing this carrier. It is not intended for newborns. I tested this carrier with an 8 month old who has Down Syndrome and therefore low muscle tone which probably sets him at about the 4 month mark for head support. I also tested it with a 27 month old who is 30lbs. So basically I’ve tested this on the low and the high end of the spectrum for intended use.
Our test included at-home wearing with a tank top, and out at an apple orchard on a cool day wearing a t-shirt and hooded sweater.
Pros:
- Stores in an incorporated storage pouch. It is so nice to not have to carry a separate storage bag (which could eventually get lost), or to deal with it stuffed into your diaper bag and getting caught on other things. Bonus, when wearing the carrier that elastic storage pouch allows you to carry a small wallet and your phone in the front of the carrier. That was probably not intentional, but it makes a nice perk.
- Lightweight. This carrier is lightweight; the only other carrier comparable is the Aerloom which is just slightly heavier. The Aerloom, while more padded, does not have its own carrying bag and anything Velcro sticks to it like mad.
- Ease of use and to adjust. Just a couple of tries and you’ll be wearing this thing like a pro.
- Can carry on the front or back facing inward.
- Incorporates a hood for shade or privacy.
- Easy to clean— some other carriers need you to wash the whole thing if there’s a spill or really soak it down, but the material on this one wipes off pretty easily.
Cons:
- You can’t wear it for very long unless you’ve got extra layers for padding— its just not comfortable enough. While at home wearing a tank top and carrying inward on the front, 20 minutes was the max with my 8 month old and 12-15 the max with my toddler. This is by design, but if you’re looking to do contact naps, this is not the carrier for you. I’d suggest the OMNI (which allows for newborns without an insert) or the 360 (which requires an insert for newborns). However, if you’re out and about and wearing a few soft layers, the amount of time you can wear this extends significantly— I wore my infant in it for one hour at the apple orchard (front carry) and then proceeded to carry my toddler (back carry) for another 20 minutes.
- You can’t use it with newborns or above 35lbs. The heavier duty Ergobaby carriers can accommodate newborn to 45lbs.
- You can only front and back carry, inward facing only— no outward facing or side carry
At the end of the day, and based on having several different types of Ergobaby carriers, here’s what I’d suggest:
If you’re really looking for light-weight, compact, and short duration baby wearing, this is a great option.
If you’re looking to do contact naps or wear baby for an extended period of time on a regular basis, choose the bulkier carrier with more padding like the 360 or Omni.
If you’re looking for something in-between, go for the Aerloom— more padding than the Away but not as bulky as the 360. I would reference the Omni, but I don’t own one and so can’t speak to it. I suspect it's a great carrier.
The Ergobaby Away is a great option for when your regular carrier isn’t available, or when you’re looking to go compact. I don’t know what the cost of the Away will be, but if you’re considering it because it’s cheaper than the one you think you really want, go with the one you think you’ll get the most use out of. My 360 has been worn daily for two kiddos— often for contact naps. But when I go out, the Away is more likely to be in my bag as it's less bulky. And if you’re thinking of doing both the Away and a more padded carrier, I can say that I appreciate having both. If you’re an out and about family, the Away may just find a perfect home with you.
Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.
Lightweight and easy for on the go
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ergobaby Away carrier is a lightweight and simple carrier for those times when you need something to get your little one up, but might not have access to your other carrier or don’t want to carry the heavier one around.
Let’s talk pros:
- super lightweight
- easy to slip into a diaper bag or backpack
- comes with an attached carrying pouch if you want to store/wear it that way
- mesh/breathable sunshade for baby attached
- easy to adjust straps
- allows for the two most basic carrying positions (tummy to chest and back)
Cons:
-not as cushy as other designs (so I wouldn’t use for wearing for longer time periods; my max was about 45 minutes)
- can’t forward face (but the basic front aka tummy to chest and back carries are possible!)
- some of the mesh material rubbed slightly on my neck (wasn’t a huge problem, but still wanted to mention - could also be because of my short torso and the way the carrier sits on me)
Overall, this carrier would be a backup one for me; it’s light enough I’d throw it into our library bag if the baby needed up or keep in the stroller basket, but I wouldn’t take out on a long hike. The mesh hood is a great feature as well as how compact the carrier can get.
Lastly, I received this baby carrier from the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
Great Back Up Carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Ergobaby Away was provided to me at no cost as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
I am a mom of 4 and my youngest son is a chunky 8 month old. Babywearing has always been super important to me and I have had many different types of carriers. Overall, this Ergobaby Away has proved to be a great backup carrier.
My favorite selling features were the many ways to store it! It came with its own little bag to store it in and you could also roll it up into itself for quick storage. This is a feature my other favorite carriers lacked and had always wished there was a quick way to store it. Another great feature is how utterly SIMPLE it is to use! I was able to pull it out of the box, look over the directions (very easy to understand), and hook my baby in really quick. The carrier was also very soft and flexible with cooling material. The head shade was extremely easy to pull out, button on, and stuff back in without any zipping.
There were also a few features that I found to be bothersome. I am a larger lady (pant size 18) and the waist strap definitely cut in to my waist. It was mostly bearable depending on the tightness and if I was sitting or standing. It causes a few more noticeable rolls if that is something that matters to you.
Another feature that was not my favorite was that my son didn’t have much head space between the shoulder straps, which kind of just encouraged him to bite/suck on the straps because they were right in his face. I tried to illustrate this is in one of the photos.
In all, this carrier will be a great secondary carrier for me as a quick, on-the-go option.
Helping Hands
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ergobaby Away carrier is the perfect on-the-go carrier due to its simple design. We have used a much-loved Ergobaby Omni 360 for three years and it was always being stuffed in cracks and crevices or thrown on top of a pile in between uses, so this carrier is exactly what we need to take when we want to carry the baby some of the time and just pack the carrier away at other times. We keep this carrier in our car all the time now so we can baby carry wherever we are. We also love to toss it in the basket of our stroller for when the baby gets fussy, and pack it in our backpacks for trips. We love being able to grab this out of the diaper bag when we are at restaurants and needing a carrier in a pinch. The comfort with the baby on the front was excellent even when used for an hour, however it was not at all comfortable to wear the baby on my back because the stomach strap does not have any structure. It also seemed to be much more easily adjustable for swapping front to back and also for adjusting sizes between mom and dad. It does seem to be able to provide adequate support for the wearer and baby with this simplistic design but long duration wear may be more uncomfortable. The appearance of the Ergobaby Away carrier also seems more appropriate for a lot of situations with a more minimalist look compared to the also great Ergobaby Omni 360 that was like wearing a cargo pack and looked very bulky.
Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.
Portable and lightweight but not quite as comfy
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall this is a great idea for a product. It’s very lightweight, and stuffs down nicely into the pouch that is attached to it. I did have somewhat of a difficult time stuffing it into the pouch, but the tight fit makes it small when it’s zipped up. I have been keeping it as a spare carrier in my car - that way when I’m just going on quick errands, I don’t have to worry about remembering to pack the carrier. I wouldn’t want to wear it for longer outings, as the waist strap isn’t really padded. It’s definitely not the most comfortable carrier, and my baby agrees. I found it a little tricky to get her into a comfortable position, and my husband found it very tricky. I received this product to test through the stellar panel, I likely wouldn’t spend the money on one myself but might consider giving it to someone as a gift.
Adventure Awaits
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Ergobaby Away Carrier makes adventures with your little one a cake walk. This carrier is compact and can easily fit into our diaper bag making it our go to carrier for outings. While our two year old is a bundle of energy, our infant still likes to catch those z's. The Away Carrier is perfect for on the go naps at playdates and parks. It also helps with the multi-tasking that outings with two little kiddos entails. Our baby girl loves this carrier and seems very content and snug when she is strapped in. While it is not as comfortable for me to wear as our main carrier due to less padding, I think it is worth the slight discomfort for how tiny it is to transport. Special thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.
Incredibly Convenient but Lacks in Functionality
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this baby carrier to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I was very eager to give it 5 stars because I have never seen such a practical and convenient carrier. It also looks like a cool belt bag plus the quality and fabric of the carrier is also fantastic - very soft. Like every carrier, it has a learning curve to learn how to use it the right way. However, the carrier only allows for two positions; frontward inward facing and back carry. I have a 7m old and she likes to face forward always (unless she is sleeping) and I feel she is too young to carry her on the back. So, unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to make much use of it due to the lack in functionality (i.e., carry positions). That said, it is a great option to keep handy when traveling and your main carrier is too bulky to take with you.
Great carrier but I had one issue
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Ergo Away carrier was sent to me in exchange for my honest review as a part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. Here are my thoughts as a mom of 2 littles.
I absolutely love the portability. Light weight, easy to buckle, and baby wear. I mean it when I say I really love how easy it is to put on. I heavily rely on baby wearing my infant because I’m constantly chasing my toddler around. It’s the only way I can get work done and keeping baby close is what I prefer. With that being said, I’ve used this carrier every single day since receiving it. It is so easy to pack in the car and carry around with me when needed.
One of the features that seems pretty cool and interesting is the ability to pack it up and wear it across your body when not in use. Personally, I didn’t find this to be as useful and didn’t desire to use it this way. When I’m not using the away carrier, I will have it hung up on a hook at home, stored in the trunk of my car, or tucked at the bottom of the stroller when out and about. I like the idea of this feature though, and it may be something other parents enjoy!
I did find myself gravitating towards this specific carrier because of how lightweight it is. It’s not as bulky as the other types of carriers. Anytime we went on a family walk around the neighborhood, I would reach for the Away carrier over other carriers. Walking for 30 minutes was comfortable for me and didn’t hurt my back. My baby wasn’t slipping around either - a win! I ended up using the stretchy part of the carrier (at the waist band, below baby’s bum) to store my phone too.
This carrier gets a 4/5 stars from me because I wish the range of view was bigger for my baby. I mainly wear her in front the front carry position with her facing my chest. The straps are very comfortable for me, but they are closely attached to the mesh head/neck support. This affects my baby because she sometimes seems uncomfortable with the strap placement. I wish the head/neck support was adjustable, perhaps with a foldable closure that allows for me to roll it down a bit. I imagine getting longer use out of the Away carrier if this detail was added.
Great Compact Structured Carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This carrier is a great addition to the ErgoBaby line! I love that it folds up into its own little travel bag…it is compact and keeps it clean! I like the material, feels breathable and easy to wipe clean. We recently went to a football game and I was able to attach the bag to the outside of our diaper bag which made it easy to transport and readily accessible for when we needed it! I’ve been keeping it in our car all the time so we’re always ready to go. I also used this carrier in addition to a hiking backpack to go on a short solo hike with my 2 kids which I have done with other carriers and this worked so nicely as the shoulder straps are very thin! It was very comfortable to double carry and even more so when used solo. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.
Goldilocks carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We've used every kind of baby carrier and this is the true Goldilocks of them all. It is as portable as any of our lightweight and as supportive as any of our more bulky carriers. My spouse also prefers this carrier out of all our options in any situation except the very hottest days. The craftsmanship is top notch. I found it to be the easiest to get on by myself and easy to adjust to fit different wearers and babies. I especially like that the straps adjust at the baby, it makes them much easier to reach.
This has become our default carrier and stays in the car so we have it ready all the time. It was the perfect comfortable way for me to carry my massive baby and seemed comfortable for her too.
Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier.
Comfortable breathable and compact
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Firstly I’d like to thank the stellar parent panel for gifting me this baby carrier in exchange for my honest review. This baby carrier is awesome! It comes in a really gorgeous royal blue color and i immediately noticed it had mesh so it made the carrier really breathable. I put my son in it right away. He prefers to be carried facing out so that’s what we did and it was really easy to put him in. Living in Florida the mesh is really cool to have because it can get really hot and sweaty carrying a baby after a while. This carrier is really convenient because you can roll it up into the zipper pouch and it makes it so compact. It’s honestly like magic how it fits. I keep mine in my diaper bag now for the moments we need it I’ll always have it on hand! All in all this carrier is a really great option for on the go, it keeps you and baby cool and stays super compact so you’ll never forget it! I highly recommend this carrier!
Super compact carrier ideal for traveling
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] TLDR I love this compact carrier. If you're a mom who's always on the go, especially if you plan to fly, this carrier is your new best friend.
What's so awesome about it? Well, first of all, it's as compact as it gets. Seriously, you can just roll it up and store it away. Perfect for those moments when your kiddo decides they're done with the stroller - we've all been there!
Putting it on is a breeze right out of the box. No complicated instructions to wrestle with. And my 8-month-old? Total comfort whether they're in the front or on my back. Oh, and that hood? A lifesaver on chilly days.
Now, let's talk about a few things that could be better. That hood is great when it’s chilly, however it's a bit of a pain if your little one wants to rest their head on a hot day. And because it's so lightweight, I'm not sure it'd be comfy for a bigger toddler.
They say it's good from 4 months to 3 years, but just a heads up - my 2.5-year-old was already above the weight limit.
All in all, I can't recommend this carrier enough. It's always hanging out in our stroller, ready for action. It's a game-changer for our travels, and I'm not leaving home without it!
Full disclosure: I was given this baby carrier to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
Great Portable Carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with the Ergobaby Away Carrier. It was a fantastic, portable baby carrier! I have 3 kids, ages 5, 3 and 8 months. Leaving the house with everything we need is always a challenge. I love that the Ergobaby Away Carrier folds up to a small pouch so I am able to leave it in my diaper bag or attach it to the stroller. No more forgetting the carrier at home!
My 8 month old was very comfortable while using. I used the Ergobaby Away Carrier to carry her on my front, facing both inward and outward. She seemed comfortable with both positions and easily fell asleep while facing inwards. I really liked that the carrier has a sun shield that can be used so I did not need to try to fit a hat on her head while in the carrier.
Overall, I loved the Ergobaby Away Carrier. I would highly recommend it to other parents. Both my baby and I were comfortable while using it and the compact storage makes it a great product for daily use or traveling.
Best Carrier for Travel
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I first received this carrier I was a little skeptical but the more I looked at it and then used it the more I loved it. Let me break down the likes/dislikes:
Likes:
- Able to front face or back carry. Essential as baby grows and they want to face where you are walking.
- Adjustable straps for both baby and parent. My husband and I are different sizes and we were both able to use this comfortably. It is much more straight forward to put on and put Baby in than the "wraps"
- Baby hood. OMG I love this feature. I have a hiking carrier that has a hood for inclement weather but none of my other everyday carriers have this feature and it sorely lacking. I haven't gotten to try it out yet because it has been boringly sunny but rainy season is coming and I can't wait to use it.
- It packs down so small and has a travel pouch. This might be my favorite part. My other carriers are so bulky or have no carry case and this is perfect. I've been keeping it in the van and throwing it in the diaper bag for those times when I need to wear one of my kids.
- Ergobaby has videos on proper use techniques so no more guessing what pictures mean.
Dislikes:
- Doesn't start at newborn. Weight range starts at 12lbs. My twins are small for their age so while they are big enough now for this it limits how much I can use it in the early days.
- It feels best for an infant. I'm pretty petite and it was a little less comfortable wearing my 2 year old for longer periods. My husband did not report these issues.
- This is super nitpicky but the manual isn't a booklet its more of a huge piece of paper folded. (Like an old school map.) Not a huge deal. Just use the link and watch the videos instead.
Overall, I love this carrier and I've been using it more than my others because it is easier to carry with me. I honestly want another one so I can have one in each vehicle or my husband and I can each wear one of the twins.
I received this product through Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest opinion.
The baby carrier I have been waiting for
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ergobaby has solved my #1 problem with structured baby carriers- they’ve built in compact storage to solve the bulky carrier storage problem.
The way this folds up and has a concealed pocket and zipper pouch is truly genius. I wish all carriers had this feature. So often, I debate if the convenience of baby carrying will outweigh the annoyance of lugging around the carrier if baby decides to get down. This carrier makes it easy to say “yes” to bringing it along. It is great for clipping to the stroller handle bar and taking to the park, the zoo, the grocery store, and more. I love that I can store it in my car and have it ready to go without becoming a tangled mess in the floorboards. I will definitely chose this carrier to fly with on our next trip. I usually baby wear through security, and now this carrier will store easily under the seat when I no longer need it. I can also wear it cross body, because who in the world has a spare hand to cary something while traveling?!
The straps are considerably less padded than other full size carriers, which surprisingly didn’t impact my comfort very much. The clip seems higher than other carriers I have which makes buckling it in the back by myself SO much easier, but is almost at the base of my neck if I want to carry like a backpack. Not sure if I am fitting it incorrectly or if others have experienced that.
Only one thing I’d love to see changed to make this an absolute slam dunk- If baby could be carried forward facing out. That’s the position my baby prefers, which is not supported in this carrier.
I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
My favorite carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this baby carrier from the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I will say honestly it has been my favorite carrier (I have tried several of the popular brands).
Some of my favorite features are:
- It’s not excessively bulky or heavy
- It’s easy to clean
- Very Comfortable for both mommy and baby
- Can fold in a compact pouch for easy storage
- Easy to put on and take off
- The pink stitched accents are super cute
The only thing that bothered me a bit was the baby head/neck area sits is a little narrow this isn’t the case on any of my other carriers but overall I still give this carrier all 5 stars.
While not in use I left the carrier in my car so that it was easily accessible when I wanted to use. While I did not use the folding option very often I love the fact I have it as an option especially because my stroller doesn’t have a storage basket.
Overall well made carrier that both myself and my little one likes and foresee this being used as our primary carrier for long term use. My daughter is still young so we currently only front carrier but I look forward to the option to back carry when that time comes.
Almost Perfect
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was thrilled to receive this carrier as a part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel! I absolutely love the color! It goes with all of my other baby stuff. It folds up and stores away so perfectly, but it is a little bit clunky getting it in and out of the storage bag. It easily fits under the stroller, but took up quite a good part of the diaper bag if I put it in there.
When I wasn’t using it, folding it up all the way into the zipper pouch and putting it under the stroller or in the car was the best way to store it. I didn’t love the stretchy on the go pouch because every time I try to use it the carrier would just unfold and fall out. I feel like that part was a great concept, but it needs some sort of way to secure it.
This carrier is excellent for quick easy use and the fact that it can be folded up so compactly however, I prefer my main carrier because I have the option for my baby to face forward in that one and at almost 8 months old that’s the carrying style he prefers.
The majority of the fabrics are soft and comfortable. However, the mesh parts are a little bit scratchy. Specifically the mesh that rubs on the back of the babies neck, caused a little bit of a rash. It does fit very well and distributes his weight without pulling on my back at all.
Overall, this is a wonderful, comfortable carrier that I’m sure we will use for many years to come.
Simple and quick to put on and lightweight
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this Ergobaby Away Carrier. I love Ergo products, they usually knock it outta the park. The Away is super lightweight, and not bulky. I like that the straps are thin, so it’s more comfortable to lean back on chairs or park benches. Huge plus is that it was simple to clip on and only needed a few quick adjustments to the straps to fit me and baby. However, my little baby loves to look around and the carrier hit her just high enough where it was harder for her to turn her head. Once she grows just a tiny bit taller, she will be able to turn easier and then she will love it. It folds up small so I’ll just leave in the car so I always have it with me. I liked the neutral dark blue, goes with everything and will look nicer longer. I definitely recommend if you are looking for a carrier that is quick and simple to put on and stores small.
Comfortable and perfect for on the go Babywearing
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am an avid baby wearing fan and wore my eldest until she was 4 and am currently wearing my 7 month old every day. I have over 20 carriers and am always excited to try new ones! Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this baby carrier. I was so excited for another lightweight travel option! Of my 20+ carriers, 2 are also Ergobaby (an old four position 360, and a newer Aerloom), and I also have 4 lightweight carriers. Of those, this is my favorite Ergobaby and tied for first with for a travel option.
As a travel carrier, the Ergobaby Away Carrier is a little heavier and bulkier than my other lightweight carriers BUT it is significantly more comfortable which makes the slight weight difference totally worth it. It also folds up really compactly into a pouch which is great for tossing in my diaper bag. I appreciate that the pouch is part of the carrier because I would definitely misplace it otherwise! I also love the Ergobaby Aerloom, which is a bit more comfortable for both mom and baby but this one edges it out as a compact option because of the attached bag- it keeps the carrier clean and makes it easier to pack and grab! I ended up keeping this carrier in the trunk of my car and I’ve been using it on library trips, grocery runs, quick errands, and even a day in the city when I forgot my other carrier. I have to say that this carrier is very comfortable and could even be someone’s regular go to carrier too if you aren’t wearing for too many hours on end! The shoulders are padded enough to not dig in and I can wear my 21 pound baby for hours without feeling sore. I’ve only worn front facing in before but like that I have the option to wear him on my back if needed. For size reference, I am 5’2” and a generally size small. The straps fit nicely on my shoulders and don’t ever come close to slipping off. I love the thick padded waistband which provides excellent support. My baby feels very evenly distributed. Also, the leg holes are padded which is a definite plus- I feel like my other lightweight carriers dig into his chunky thighs!
I have the carrier in Graphite Grey which is a nice neutral color that looks nice with my outfits. The hideaway hood is also great for naps on the go! My very first time wearing this carrier, my baby fell asleep and I was able to pull out the hood and snap it up without disturbing him. The hood is lightweight, soft, stretchy and breathable. I also like that I can wear it as a crossbody sling when not in use. For size reference, I’ve included a photo of it next to my 2L belt bag.
The only negative about this carrier is the mesh on the bottom of the shoulder straps isn’t very comfortable against bare skin, so I just don’t wear tank tops with it. It’s not too bad but you’ll definitely feel it. Otherwise, no complaints!
Overall, this carrier is amazing and I would definitely recommend it. It will be used regularly for years to come!
Perfect on the go carrier
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This portable carrier is super easy to take on the go. It’s incredibly lightweight and compact, and conveniently folds down into a waistband pocket (that can alternatively be worn crossbody) so the top doesn’t hang down at your legs like other models do when they’re not in use. I love that the entire carrier can also be inverted into a zipper pouch that then easily fits in a diaper bag or can snap-attach onto a stroller handle. My favorite way to store the carrier is in the back pocket of my van’s passenger seat because it takes the mental energy out of remembering one more thing- It’s so nice to know I will always have it with me when I’m running errands or traveling. An added bonus is that it’s tucked away, not causing visual clutter or a tripping hazard for my older kids.
My main carrier was unavailable when I took my three kids to a college football game. This portable carrier fit perfectly into my clear book bag along with diapers, wipes, and ear protecting headphones. I was then was able to pull the carrier out when my 8 month old wanted to be carried and take a nap. The mesh hood was especially helpful because it protected him from the sun by giving him shade while still being breathable and not getting too hot. I also like that there are reflective accents for when I’m walking the dog in the neighborhood early in the morning or as the sun is starting to set.
This carrier is actually very comfortable considering it is so compact and easy to take on-the-go. It is definitely the one I’d grab for a short trip, but I wish the shoulder straps had a little more padding for added comfort. I also wish there was a little more space for my baby’s neck when he’s outward facing during front carry. Other than those two minor preferences, this carrier is a complete win! I’m so thankful I received it as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
