I was indecisive on whether to get the Sony version or the JBL. I was certain I would get the JBL because of how it performed at my mates party. After a bit of research and much thought I went for the Sony and I’m delighted with my choice. Great for a karaoke night, great when connected via optical cable for a cinematic experience. I would definitely recommend this and you will not be disappointed!

After looking around for a while to choose a Bluetooth speaker and listen to different ones I decided to go with the Sony xv800 it sounded great.

Laitteesta löytyy bluetooth sekä AUX, joten voit soittaa musiikkia joko langattomasti tai johdolla. Kaiuttimeen voi mm. yhdistää mikrofonin (2 paikkaa) sekä kitaran. Laitteesta löytyy myös valo-ominaisuus, joka tanssahtelee musiikin tahtiin, jos niin tahtoo. Volyymin saa todella kovalle, jonka takia sillä voi täyttää huoneen kuin huoneen musiikilla ja hyvällä bassolla. Ainoa negatiivinen puoli kaiuttimessa on sen paino (n. 20kg) mutta laitteen pohjassa olevat renkaat auttavat sen siirtämisessä paikasta A paikkaan B.

Kaikenkaikkiaan olen todella tyytyväinen tähän kaiuttimeen ja tulen käyttämään sitä pitkään!

Amazing all around sound without distortion. This speaker will fill any room with distortion free sound at any volume. This is a big speaker which oozes design and build quality and is at home as much inside as outside your home. Ease of bluetooth connectivity allows use by other family members, but do take the time to link it to your TV as this brings a new dimension to your TV experience esp music but Formula1 is as close as you will get to being at the track. 
This review has taken place throughout a “Big Birthday” month at our home so it has been really put through its paces, battery life is in days as opposed to hours, the lights when turned on are a great addition which at party time are never off. Make no mistake this is a big speaker with the normal Sony build quality so it is no lightweight. It comes with 2 grab handles and 2 small wheels to ease movement which makes life easier.

We have used smaller portable speakers over the years which are good and have their place but this is a different proposition altogether. Very popular in our garden for dance practice lasting hours, it is built as much for outdoor use as indoor and has not been affected by the odd small splash or shower.

Excellent product, like the way it links to the TV via Bluetooth- so can be used as a surround sound speaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sony party speaker is a great product for party nights with friends. The speaker is quite heavy but thankfully there are handles to carry it up and downstairs and wheels to roll it around. The wheels are ok for flat surfaces and carpets but would struggle on concrete or uneven ground due to how small they are. It can be used upright or on its side as it has rubber supports to lay it flat. It can also be used outdoors and can withstand light a drizzle or splashes due to its IPX4 ratings. The battery can last up to 25 hours, I’ve charged it once since I got it and been using it almost everyday for an hour or two over 2-3 weeks and it’s still running. The flashing lights on it are great which give the room a cool/cozy party vibe and sync with whatever song is playing. Controlling the speaker is a breeze with the brightly lit touch display on the top which is very responsive. This speaker is LOUD, I barely needed to go above 30-40% volume due to the space I have to avoid disturbing the neighbours, but kicking that extra bass in on the weekend really gets this thing to shine. The connectivity is also amazing and quite versatile, watching a movie with this connected just transformed movie nights for us. Also I was excited to know I could connect my guitar to it as I had to get rid of my old amplifier which stopped working and it did not disappoint. I need to buy a mic and get into karaoke nights, it’s a great feature to have for sure. One feature that I really loved is the ability to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time and be able to play songs instantly from either device, there was zero lag and one device was an iPhone and the other an Android so it worked perfectly with both. Once again I’m very happy to receive a product from Sony that fits nicely with our lifestyle and being able to use it in multiple ways. This is the first speaker of its kind I ever had so nothing else to compare it to, but for what it is and the features it has, we love it and have recommended it to friends!

I received the Sony XV-800 X series around a week ago. The unit itself is large but fitted neatly in prime position in the corner of my living room. Sony have put some thought into the design of the unit as it is sleek and with the front diffuser you can still see the individual speakers which I love. The disco lights are a fantastic addition and when a mic is added for karaoke our bbq party went up another level. Which leads me to the capability of moving the speaker outdoors safe in my mind due to its IP rating and built in 25 hour battery. Setting the speaker up is as simple as any Bluetooth device where I connected to my phone, tv, fire stick and I have also connected my guitar through a Jack. it was on and active in seconds. The quality of the sound compares well to other speakers I have owned such as Bose and amps such as Fender, but the Base boost option for me is what separated the speaker from the others. It is deep and true to a movie and my base guitar. I find myself having a new addition to my routine when I arrive home, walking in Turing the speaker on, it automatically connects to my phone and continue listening to my playlist. There are 2 apps available for the speaker, one to assist in connecting and changing some setting and another which you can change the party settings on. I found the apps a little basic and sometimes had connection issues where only resetting the speaker would resolve the issue, however this does not effect the quality of the speaker itself which I believe is one of the best I have used. It is a must have for and music lover, musician or singer with the option to wheel it to your desired position inside or out! Amazing!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I already have the Sony XP700 wireless speaker, which is one of the best products I have ever used and owned, or so i thought.

However there were improvements to be made, and the XV800 party speaker is now perfection. The 700 was always a little bit heavy to move, but this has been rectified on the XV800, with two rear caster wheels to make it easier.

However the XV800, is an over all improvement, with crisper sound, and an all round fuller sound, especially when backed up to a wall or such like. In its normal settings, you get clear sound and voice, push the mega bass button and it transforms it in to an area filling concert with all the clarity you would expect from this brand.

I use mine in conjunction with Sony music app, where i can change the lights settings, sound, and even power it off, and even party connect it to the XP700 to give a sound like no other.

Although as I nearly always contect through bluetooth, it is a full experience to having the option to play music with either

a cable in the USB socket or the audio in socket, which makes it easy to connect using my double cassette deck player, allowing me to go old school.

Another feature I like is the option to used the XV800 as a karoke machine, and the option to charge a device. Although the slot on the rear at the top, could be a little more accomdating for a device, with out the need to remove the protection case, for it to be held in the slot.

Overall this is an amazing party speaker, so much so, I'm now addicted to want another one.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Everything about this speaker is big. Big in size, but is somehow not imposing and does not look out of place. Big in sound, this speaker delivers great sound with deep bass, that fill outdoor spaces with ease. Use it indoors and it easily fills rooms with great crisp sound. Big battery life, I used this speaker for about 2 weeks on and off, and for more than 6 hours at a time, on one charge, which is awesome. Used this at a couple of BBQs over the last couple of weeks and everyone comments how good this speaker sounds and looks with the changing lights. Connectivity is simple. Being shower proof is a bonus and having wheels on the bottom make it easy to manoeuvre. This is a must have for parties both inside and outside the house.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'll start with straight out the box you can tell it's a quality product it's got a bit of weight but not to heavy got wheels so you can haul from garden to living room because it also works great with your TV, now for what we buy them for as an outdoor party speaker the sound is outstanding clear audio and deep bass and even has a bass booster if needed but the multi directional sound really does its job no matter where people sat in my garden all said sound was awesome connecting to it was so fast and simple from my android phone and you can even download the Sony music centre app which handles all connections to the speaker and a few other settings for ease of use then you have fiestable app which works with music centre app giving you a couple of nice DJ tricks all work well really went down well with my friends if that wasn't enough it also has lights at top and bottom which sync with music again my friends loved it colour changing to the different types of music it also has connections for 2 microphones for karaoke and one for a guitar so it really is the total party speaker.niw for the TV part once again connection was quick and easy I connected to my Sony TV which let me use my TV remote to control the volume if the speaker I out a movie on fir my granddaughter let her watch first 20 minutes without it in then connected it and she said it was like being in the cinema again as with the music the sound really was outstanding clear audio and the bass on the action scenes was immense very rich and deep rumble's really added to the enjoyment of the movie so was a hit for all the family from movie's to gaming it handled it all with ease and outstanding sounds all-round for everything so think a few friends and family will be adding it to the wish list for Xmas definitely a great addition to any household because of its great all-round capabilities so definitely got a 10 from friends and family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The quality of the sound is immense, you can achieve some great volume levels without any distortion in quality of the output. Works very in the garden for entertaining kids or hooked up to console. The app provides excellent tweeking ability especially with lighting functions. Amazing entertainment system and charges your phone too! The wheels at the back are great for maneuvering around the house, but its easier to carry across gardens or thick carpet.

Was that too short? Yeah, you are right, that wouldn’t be me. Here’s the full lowdown.

Speaker was well packaged, safe and secure on delivery like most Sony products I have owned. Very easy to unpack. Straight out of the box it had an almost full battery and started up without delay for immediate testing!

I was about to order a digital audio cable so I could fully test this speaker by hooking it up to my TV and/or Playstation but there was no need, as the kind people at Sony had already included one in the box. Onto the TV testing!

A football match was on at the time so I hooked up the speaker, set the sound output profile from the TV and basked in all the audio glory. I do not own a soundbar and have only ever used the built in TV speakers so this was an immediate improvement over my standard setup. Sound was greatly enhanced for the sport on display. Commentary was clear, crowd and game noise was pleasant and immersive. Other sports fared equally as well under test.

Various types of TV sources were played and the speaker performed exceptionally every time; lots of dialogue? No problem! Clear delivery, nice tones, even when increasing volume levels. Music TV channels? Excellent sound quality every time. I didn’t notice any distortion even when turning the volume very loud indeed. Dance, rock, ballad, pop and many more styles all produced very high quality sound…you will not be disappointed at all!

I also took a stint at playing PS4 (which I don’t get the chance to play often enough these days!). Ghost of Tsushima loaded and played it’s eerie sounding backing music and then game play sounds were incredible. Sound here felt very pure, crisp with all audio being very distinct – the swish of the sword, the sound effects for the swaying trees, the grimace of the character when in a fight, etc. You were enveloped in the sound profile from this source.

I then paired my mobile phone really easily and set about listening to some streaming music and some radio. Again, much like when on TV connection, the audio was pretty amazing (it is what Sony are renowned for after all!). There were no Bluetooth dropouts at all, sound balance, tone and overall quality were truly amazing. I hope the neighbours like my taste in music as they had no choice but to listen to it for a while during my tests. If plugging mobile or tablet in via USB cable, it’ll also charge the device for you too.

There are inputs for audio in source (3.5mm jack) and 2 x inputs for microphones (perfect for karaoke!) with one of these able to take a guitar input. I tested with a mic and couldn’t believe the loudness level and clarity of the words I was saying into the mic, then I looked at the volume dial for the mic and found it was only a quarter on! Really impressive. This works very well in the room I tested, I imagine it would work very well in a small hall without issue. A massive sports hall might also be fine but could then depend on a number of other influences which I cannot comment on here as I did not test. A USB device can also be used a source but I did not test this yet to comment on.

The speaker itself looks very nice. It might appear to some people to look a little plain but not in a bad way at all, more clean lines and modern. It’ll fit in anywhere; any room, inside or out, no problem. It is a little weighty but it is a decent size after all and contains a battery too allowing it to be portable and free of needing a plug socket. The button controls are all touch sensitive and are located on the top of the speaker. The speaker has weather resistant protection to IPX4 standard which is impressive and should help if using outdoors and the rain decides to appear for a while or any party drinks have a little spillage! The battery is supposed to last around 25 hours on a full charge and I think this is a credible boast based on it being nearly full on opening the box, used for two weeks on various tests and still shows me as having more than 50% battery left!

I can see battery level in the accompanying Sony Music Centre app on my mobile which is where I can see and change various settings for the speaker such as the connected devices, the sound profiles and different lighting profiles. This greatly enhances the usability of the speaker to customise to the individual’s needs.

This is a party speaker and it includes some flashy party lights on tis device. They can be adjusted using different lighting profiles and colours directly from the Music Centre app, or you could just switch them off altogether. In absolute all honesty, the lights work just fine in a small darkened room with no other light sources to speak of but they soon feel very washed out and a little pointless once TV screen or lamp brightness are on display in the area, not to mention in the daytime, particularly if outside in natural light, you wont see any effect from the lights working away.

Omni directional sound works excellently – a real top bit of tech which is bang on the money! From different angles in the room I was walking around while listening to music and there was no fading out of the sound, no washed out parts depending on where in the room I was at the time, just consistent high quality sound from all angles. This was equally true of dialogue when TV was on in the background and I was moving around the room.

There is also a Mega Bass option which as you would expect, deepens the bass substantially that you feel it vibrating through the floors!! An immense feeling if you like thumping bass in your music and also if watching a movie with involved action scenes (guns, fight scenes, etc) which the enhanced sound leaves you feeling more immersed in the action.

Couple of small gripes to note in my opinion:

1 – The lights could be a little brighter in use, especially for the party speaker claim of this.

2 – An analogue style dial or knob for master volume would be very welcome to quickly and easily increase/decrease the volume. The Mic/guitar inputs have this already which is great so another for the main volume would be appreciated. It is a little frustrating to have to press the + / - button repeatedly to adjust levels rather than the turn of a dial.

3 – TV Sound Booster option! I couldn’t get to grips with this so I am unsure how effective or beneficial this may be as a feature to balance the sound between the TV speakers and this party speaker, but this may purely be down to my lack of understanding (and need) for this feature.

Overall, a fantastic bit of kit that sounds incredible on all levels and from all sources. You will not be disappointed in adding this to your tech bundle. Hearing is believing!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When this speaker arrived and I started to unbox it, the first thought was that this was some substantial piece of kit. As always with Sony it was nicely packaged with secure packing to keep your product from being damaged. Everything needed was within the box. (The speaker, charging cable and even a optic cable to let you use the tv boost feature.)

As I had already used the music app for sony speakers it was easy to connect my phone to my new speaker. I also however connected my alexa through the bluetooth giving me high quality audio access tk my play lists. This was again simple to do.

The button configuration is sleek on top of the speaker but does not lack any functunality. I considered if a remote would add benefit, but as the device can be connected to your phone this is just as effective.

The speaker is solid and made of quality material. I like the front mesh area keeping the speakers safe from little fingers that could damage it. The build quality also looks good as well as sturdy. The lights although not as bright as I first throught they would be add an extra layer of ambiance, especially when chilling to your favourite tunes. I like that using the app you can alter the ambiance settings with different light displays.

Finally the sound quality.what can I say. I live in a detached house but this is such a nice bit of kit I cant even get close to top volume as its volume range is that good. The bass is clear alongside the mid and tweeters. Love,love,love the mega bass for my dance tunes. But its equally able to meet other pitch ranges for whatever your musical taste. This really is a speaker for those that love to hear their music out load.

Having previously used a sound bar the tv function took a little bit of adjusting on my tv as the speaker works as the boost not as a sole speaker, but having run it through its paces on some movies I can confirm it would turn your living room in to a mini cinema.

All in all another quality piece of kit from Sony

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Sony XV800 X series has been a welcome addition to our family home - of use for everything from kitchen discos to alfresco dining, easily transported from indoors to outdoors where the speaker is on wheels. The sound quality is second to none - crystal clear regardless of positioning and incredibly immersive. We have used it to enhance our TV experience - great with movies, though the mega base was not so good when watching the cup final, excellent for music though! We’ve also used it as a stand alone in the house to listen to music and as mentioned earlier, it was especially good for a toddler disco! Though a considerable outgoing, we feel the speaker will be of use for many events, for many years to come. And our toddler loves the party lights!

From the product photo I hadn’t realised this is a pretty BIG party speaker. It stands 70cm (28") high, 30cm (12")wide and 36cm (14") deep and it weighs in at around 17kg. Fortunately it has good carrying handles for portability as well as a set of wheels that, on flat surfaces at least, mean it can be pulled along like a suitcase.

It is also a heavyweight in terms of musicality. It is very LOUD, obviously, with distortion-free bass and clear vocals even at high volumes, but it also has omni-directional tweeters which provide a well-balanced sound quality regardless of where it’s placed in a room. You can also tweak the sound to your own taste by downloading the Sony Music Centre App, but I found the default setting worked best.

The XV800's TV Sound-Booster mode is an interesting extra feature which worked brilliantly on action movies and music videos by adding an amazing depth to my (Sony) TV's own speakers. For this you need to connect your TV to the speaker via the supplied optical cable. The XV880 is not unobtrusive, though, so this won’t work for everyone - see photo!

The flashing light bars at the top and bottom of the speaker add to the party vibe and can also be adjusted via the app or switched off. The touch-panel at the top of the speaker makes it easy to adjust the volume, shake the room with Mega-bass or change the inputs etc. Bluetooth connection to my iPhone proved easy - you can connect more than one device at a time - and it's great to see that Sony has included an old skool 3.5 jack to connect older music sources.

You can synch this speaker to others around your home via Bluetooth - although I haven’t yet tried that. Battery life so far has been great, although my neighbours probably aren't up for testing the 25 hour battery life! There’s also a quick-charge function which claims to give a useful three hours playback from just a 10 minute charge. Inevitably I think battery life with depend on how you use the speaker but for a full-on all-nighter it can always be plugged into the mains.

I would recommend the XV800 as a seriously loud party speaker, but I think its sound quality and the ability to connect with other portable speakers around the home are what sets it apart from the competition.

Does everything it says it will.

It has Every connection you could wish for.

Plus, Bluetooth which easily connects with other devices & phones.

For example, It works well with a Sony Bluetooth Turntable that I own.

Connection Cables are provided, including an Optical lead to connect to a TV (or ‘CD Player?), but you can also connect via bluetooth if your TV (etc) has that feature.

Good ‘meaty’ sound - But, with that quality, does mean that it is substantially built & a little heavy - But, it is on wheels & no one should have any problems ‘porting’ it around. It is also a little on the larger side, being similar in dimensions to a portable air-con Unit - But again, if you want the quality sound, you would expect this to be the case - Just make sure that you have room for it to ‘live’ with you!

Added benefits are ‘illumination’ which is a nice feature, plus, it is waterproof within certain limits.

The ‘on-board’ battery provides many hours of use, without requiring ‘connection’ (charging) - So, you can literally take it anywhere - ‘Beach Party’ anyone?!!

I am planning to get an electric guitar & will also use this Product as an amplifier for that.

You can also connect microphones (& be your own MC?!) should you wish to do so.

Again, sound reproduction is excellent, but on a practical note - If you had a relative that was ‘hard of hearing’ then I’m sure that this Product, once connected to say their TV & positioned next to them, would be an enhancement to their lives.

So, suitable for all ‘quality sound & amplification’ needs/uses.

It ‘looks cool’ & ‘is cool’ - May even help get you more friends!
