A great camera overall for everything from wildlife/ sports and macro .
I preordered the R7 from launch
and it’s been a great camera . I use all of my
canon L lenses including a 600 f4LIS prime lens that’s over 20 years old but in mint condition. The RF - EF Canon adapter works flawlessly with all of my EF lenses and I even use a Vintage Leica-r manual lens with an adapter too . The images I have created during my wildlife hobby have been the best I have to date . I also use a 1DX mkii with all my lenses.
Highly recommend
I am new to using a camera like the R7. I did a lot of reserch before buying this camera. I am not disappointed. The picture quality is excellent.
I used YouTube to get the best out of camera, including what lens to buy.
I would highly recommend this camera. I am excited to use this camera on my upcoming holidays.
My best camera ever!
I received my camera as a present just over a month ago & it’s the best camera I’ve ever had, along with the 100mm-400mm lens & 18mm-50mm lens. The photo quality is superb & the camera is very user friendly with lots of great features
Disappointing autofocus
Had the camera well over a year. Run it with various different lenses and really liked it until I bought an R8. Then worked out that the autofocus was just too hit and miss for what I used it for, fast moving birds in flight etc.
Great image, when in focus. Used back button focus and would lock on fine but then drift off focus again.
Loved the feel of it, the controls and the image quality. But have now replaced it with an R6mk11. Probably won’t go back to aps-c. Don’t need more than 10megapixel images. I only ever look at them on phone or tablet so crop factor on R8 and R6mk11 works well for me.
Its literally my new baby
I absolutely love it! Ive become very attached to it also. It's lightweight, easy to use, looks amazing and its literally my baby.
Attaching zoom
My Canon zoom lens ( with adapter) is not working. Can you help . I notice lots of people have problems with it
Packed with features and easy to handle
Had the R7 for a couple of weeks now, absolutely delighted. Had a D5600 for a number of years which was great, so I was nervous about moving away from Nikon. I started looking at mirrorless Nikon cameras as a replacement first but just found that the Canon spec fitted my brief better. R7 much more intuitive and only took a weekend to get the hang of the buttons and dials. Because it’s so intuitive, it opens up so much more flexibility and opportunity in terms of shooting.
Impressive.
Bought as second camera to go with R5. Only used it the once so far but really impressed with it.
Tracking is a game changer from the 90D
I bought the R7 body with lens adaptor and have paired with my EF 100/400 and 300 f2 8 version 1 with 1.4 converter .The animal tracking is impressive even in difficult environments. Pleased with the hit rate of sharp images with the near thousand taken already
Glad I made the switch!
I bought my R7 at the camera show. Had been thinking for a but wasn’t sure about going mirrorless. I’m glad I did. It’s a fantastic piece of kit, the eye detection is amazing
Great features and everything that I need is just a click away.
Great camera as I'm just starting on this photography journey.
Also purchased the RF 100mm - 400mm lense which is a cracking lense and compliments the camera entirely.
Looking to get the Canon 100-500mm as trialed this at a camera shop and that's amazing as well.
Keep up the great work Canon.
Absolutely fabulous!
I have had the EOS R7 since April 2024, and I love it! It was bought to rekindle my love of photography and boy has it, in fact I love it so much I bought another one! I now have one with a telephoto (Canon 150-500) lens and the other with a wide angle lens.
A very easy to use, lightweight camera ❤️
Great purchase, should have done it sooner!
Bought it for my school to use for promotional photos and the improvement over our previous photos is just incredible. The speed of the focus and the quality of image makes a viery average photographer look very good! Also, Canon usability and intuitive menus really work.
Great camera.
Bought a month ago - lovely camera, really intuitive and frankly a cracker of a camera
Great mirrorless camera
My only issue so far is the battery / time. I’ve found I need to change the battery after approx 2-3hrs. Not being able to add a battery grip with dual batteries lets the R7 down -just a little. Otherwise it’s a great mirrorless camera. Easy to navigate, exceptional picture quality, Bluetooth transfer is a real bonus. High megapixels is fantastic.
Brilliant camera, great results
Purchased the R7 as an entry into photography, building on a passion for wildlife and landscape images. Absolutely blown away by it's functionality, intuitive features and the image quality has produced photos I'm proud of. From my limited knowledge and expectations, I have found zero fault with this camera. Really pleased with my choice.
Perfect for Low Level Sports
Bought the r7 two months ago, overall a pretty good camera and excels with most of what you put it through, however it struggles in temperatures bellow 5°C , with the camera often loosing all functionality after 10 minutes of use, with no buttons having any effect until the battery is reinserted. The hand grip is also very small but you can 3d print an extender etc
Besides this it handles very well, handles iso well, very good quality sensor, the af likes to hunt but once you get your settings dialed in it can be absolutely amazing. Great product!
Superb settings , get the right settings and the pictures are very rewarding
Had the R7 a few months now. I love it.
Great Camera
Had this approximately 4 weeks and absolutely love it
A great wildlife camera, with a few issues to be aware off but they can be worked around.
I've had the R7 a couple of months now and as I also have an R6 I can compare the two. Overall I really like the control layout of the R7 and especially the rear dial being around the joy stick, my thumb finds it more easily in that location. I paired it with the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 which is a very light weight 'walk around' set up.
i bought the R7 mainly for wildlife photography due to the APS-C sensors longer reach and greater mega pixels when cropping. Whilst its supposed to have an updated autofocus compared to my R6 i find the R6 autofocus to be much more reliable. With the R6 over 95% of action shots are in focus, whereas the R7 is considerably lower as it keeps losing focus and recovering. Whilst this sounds disappointing, the reality is that enough action shots from the R7 are in focus for my needs (I just keep the best) and because of the extra reach and mega pixels the very best wildlife shots in good light are probably better than my R6.
Where it loses compared to the R6 is low light performance when a fast shutter is required, as the R6 full frame sensor is simply brilliant in low light when high ISO is required due to the much larger pixels. The R7 also suffers more from rolling shutter, particularly with small birds that flap their wings incredibly quickly; with larger birds like kestrels and owls I don't notice this problem. So i switch to mechanical shutter when its a problem and its ok then, but of course silent would be better when shooting birds.
Another area where it loses to the R6 is the depth of its buffer before the frame rate drops and it stops shooting whilst it writes to the SD card. I get around this by shooting in short bursts so i don't fill the buffer; its not a major issue, just something to be aware off.
A couple of areas where the R7 betters the R6 is the availability of Raw Burst Pre-shooting. This is simply brilliant for capturing birds taking off & landing. It may not be quite as well implemented as my Olympus camera but it's good enough and easy to extract the perfectly timed image. I also really like the Dual Pixel Raw facility. I mostly shoot JPEG images as they are really good straight out of camera with minimal if any editing, but were I have a really good wildlife image that requires cropping due to the small subject size, I will then extract the dual pixel raw image from the 2nd card and can sometimes see a marked improvement.
I generally carry both cameras with me now with my Rf100-500 fitted to the R7 and RF 24-240 or RF 50mm f1.8 fitted to my R6. If the light isn't too good I fit the RF 100-500 to my R6 and fit the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 to the R7. I find having both cameras gives me all the options I need for my wildlife, equestrian and aircraft photography.
Great for wildlife and macro
Brilliant camera also bought the adapter so I can use my other lenses
Great camera
I have only had this camera for a month. Not really used it until today. On a visit to Cornwall. Being able to see exactly what my adjustments do in camera is spectacular. I came from an EOS 70D. Whilst this is a really good camera the R7 outshines it by miles. After saying all that I am experiencing AF problems. However Canon are doing everything they can to put it right. They think it maybe my lens converter. I have a lot of EF lenses which I want to continue using. I bought a non-canon converter because of the price. This may be my problem! I hope so. I can still use the camera and get fabulous shots, it is just a bit inconvenient as it is. Probably my fault for being cheapskate!
Brilliant, lightweight camera
I am so pleased with the shots I am getting with my R7 coupled with the rf-s 18-150 lens. Lovely sharp photos and a good focal range. I am obviously still learning the controls etc but I'm enjoying every minute.
Good, but not great so far.
I've had the R7 about a month now. It replaced an 80D which I'd been using for approx 7 years. First things first, the AF is a real step up, far superior. Will take a while to learn all it's capabilities. Overall design is nice, I don't miss the top screen. No grip, not that bothered. The top dial design could be better, should have kept the old lock type. The most disappointing thing for me is the build quality. It doesn't seem as robust and as solid as the 80D and the finish and quality of the plastics is a step down. It also shows more image noise than my 80D, but that comes with the high MP cropped sensor. Despite those points, it is a very capable camera.
