- Beard Comb Breaks- This came with my 9000 series Smart Clean Wet & Dry shaving system (not cheap). - I was very disappointed when the beard comb broke after very little use. I normally wet shave and have a dedicated beard trimmer- so this gets used when I travel or am out of blades. - The 9000 series shaver is a nice shaving unit but the Smartclick Beard comb is very poor. - It works better wet than it does dry (friction over the blades is awful) and the beard comb snapped so that it now only functions as a precision edging tool. - My shaver is out of warranty as I bought it 3 years ago- but the over use of the Smartclick trimmer has been minimal to say the least and now Philips expect me to replace this full unit (as they wont supply just the comb) at my cost! - Well unfortunately for you Philips, I am a professional Product Manager and Product Designer and I can tell you for a fact that this component (the beard comb) should outlast the mechanical shaver as it is a 'non moving part' and as seen by the majority of reviews that the comb 'is not fit for purpose' and has not met its expected life. - Additionally, under the consumer rights act, it does not matter if the product is out of manufacturing warranty or develops a fault in service as long as the product is being used as intended and the manufacture should repair or replace the defected item (this does not include wear and tear). - Also, thanks to the myriad of reviews here with the same fault, it would be very easy for the Ombudsman or a Judge at Small Claims court to award the consumer in this case. Good luck Philips persuading them that each and every user complaining here has purposefully damaged the product and that the evidence is coincidental. - I suggest that Philips change the Polymer that is used to mould the comb to something more suitable (less brittle) and to issue each plaintive with a free replacement comb. - I've asway bought Philips products over competitors but that may now be changing based on this being the worst trimmer I've ever owned... - Yours, a disgruntled customer
- Comb breaks too easily- Same problem. The arm breaks off the comb, rendering the trimmer completely useless. Very disappointing to learn that the comb isn't sold separately. It would be so easy to have happy customers, Philips!
- The product has good features, but breaks easily- I bought the electric beard trimmer head and used it relatively frequently 2 to 3 times a week for about three weeks and was happy with the product. - Then the plastic broke. Having looked around for a replacement comb, like some of the reviews above, I have found that a simple replacement for the plastic comb does not exist! - Instead I will have to fork out about £40 on a replacement HEAD for the otherwise functional electric razor, which, as other users have pointed out, is ridiculous. - For that amount, I could quite easily go online and, at a cost of an extra £5, buy a separate Philips razor which has 11 beard grooming attachments. That shaver kit comes with ELEVEN attachments, AND an actual electric razor! - How this razor HEAD is worth so much is beyond me.
- plastic beard comb broke after few uses- The plastic beard comb broke after few uses. I have tried to buy it separately but it seems there is no chance to do this! I am very disappointed.
- Great trimmer- After reading some of the reviews on here I decided to write my own as I feel the other reviews don't do justice to this product. I bought my Philips rq1195/17 in 2013 so that's 5years of constant usage and not once did the comb break or did I have any issues with it and still have till this day. Not only I trim my beard and I also remove the comb to trim my sideburns. Unless you really start pulling it off really hard/aggressively or drop it on the ground I can't quiet figure out how can it break as I've used it for 5years constantly and never had issues with it
- Many disappointing reviews!- Was looking for a beard trimmer product for my Arcitec shaver, and found this. I won’t be buying it because, after reading all the reviews, I know exactly what will happen to it after a few months use! - Such devices need regular cleaning, and should be easy to take apart/put back together without damage, due to poor design. How about an update from you, Philips, on this product?
- Worst trimmer comb- Lover the shaver but it’s a shame the trimmer comb breaks and can no longer be used!!!! Most expensive paper weight.
- Comb is fragile trash- Have used carefully for a year and noticed the comb getting weaker as it is removed & replaced for cleaning etc. - Serious design flaw. Now it's broken and there's no way to buy a spare without replacing the whole unit. - Philips get your act together!!!
- 3d print for broken comb- overall good product, but made the same experience as many others here: the comb is to fragile to last the lifetime of the shaver. - Luckily I found 3D model on thingiverse and had a 3d print made in a local print hub (keyword there: RQ111). - Long live the digital age !!!
- RQ111/50- There is a serious design flaw in the RQ111/50 beard trimmer attachment,. I am on my third one and that has only lasted three months { trimming beard once a week }. Shame on you Philips that we can't buy just the plastic comb attachment. Having worked for Phillips in the Medical division for eight years and promoting its products , this has disillusioned me. - A once very loyal but unhappy Customer.
- Poor quality comb- Although the trimmer is quick and easy to use the comb is flimsy and of poor design. As with the rest of the reviewers the arm on my comb snapped when removing it for cleaning resulting in you - only being able to use the cutting blades freehand. You cannot buy a replacement comb you have to buy the complete trimmer unit at considerable cost. Will be looking elsewhere for a more robust beard trimmer instead

- Forget it until you are able to buy replacement comb- As the other reviews this accessory relies on a couple of flimsy plastic clips to keep the guard in place. - When one of these breaks which seems to be fairly easily and judging by other comments not an isolated occurrence, the trimmer is useless. - Avoid and spend your money on something worthwhile.
- Broken comb- Much like the other reviews, after taking the comb off the head (as recommended) to clean it, one day it broke. Lasted just under a year. Tbh found it poorly designed anyway, clicking the comb back in after cleaning wasn't smooth so it didn't come as the biggest shock when it snapped, and the length range was minimal for the price of the product.
- Poor comb design and quality- The trimmer itself works fine and it is a great feature to be able to click on and off of the shaver body - great for transportation. - HOWEVER !!!!! - Everyone should be aware that the plastic comb which allows for height / cut adjustment breaks very easily and is not supplied as a spare part from Philips - instead you are expected to replace the entire unit.
- Comb is brittle and breaks- Poor quality comb. It breaks and now you need to pay half the cist of the whole original shaver.
- Would be a good product if the comb didn't break so easily.- I use the Philips S9031, and the RQ111/50 is a quick and easy attachment to fit to the shaver body. - I have used the beard styler for approximately 9 months, probably about once a week during that time, and is quick and easy to use to get the desired result. - Recently however, while removing the comb from the trimmer, the comb broke which renders the trimmer unable to do the job required. - I have looked around to see if it is possible to purchase just the comb, but of course, it looks as though I will need to buy the whole thing again, which is why I have rated performance and design so lowly.
