Canon EF-S 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 IS zoom-objektiivi

I've recently bought this lens and I do like it! I was aware of some its limitations before buying but could live with those. The micro-motor focusing is a disappointment in a lens of this price but it works well, if a little noisier than I'm used to with STM and USM lens. The close focusing at all focal lengths means that at close distance you lose some focal length - maybe 175mm instead of 200mm. This is a mathematical thing apparently, and if it's a problem then this lens isn't for you. At distance, 200mm means 200mm. There's noticeable barrel distortion at the 18mm end but using lens correction in Lightroom almost completely corrects that. I bought the lens for specific events where I won't have time to switch lens but need the focal length range, but I suspect it won't live on the camera all the time. Overall, I'm pleased with it!

I've had this lens a good few months and have been very pleased with it. It seems expensive at first, but in hand compared to the kit lens it's night and day. This is a quality piece of kit.

It is quite heavy, so if you're walking with it invest in a good shoulder strap as I find it too much for my neck after a couple of hours.

Recently I put it through it's paces at an airshow, and despite the grey cloudy weather I was very impressed with the combination of this and a 760d, despite some slightly dodgy technique on my part and fast panning they pulled focus on all of my pictures. Impressive stuff.

My prime lenses are sharper and faster, and the focusing is a little noisy, but if you want a single flexible lens that performs well in most conditions then go for this.

I bought his lens after seein a fellow traveller on an escorted holiday using one. he and I both are amazed at the ease with which the lens adjusts to what ever focal length we choose to frame a picture perfectly. Razor sharp images at all focal lengths . Moderate weight and comfortable size. I like the chunkier diameter lenses as I have fairly big hands. Together with my 10-22mm lens. I have the perfect outfit

Good genaral purpose lens.

8 vuotta tämä on ollut yleisputkeni, eli aina mukana. Kuvanlaatu ei ole pro-tasoa, eli kuvat ei kestä kovin paljon suurentamista. Mutta on tämä kyllä verrattoman kätevä putki. Zoomin alue on kutakuinkin uskomaton. Suurin harmi on kuitenkin tuo zoomin kynsi, joka ei pidä putkea kuljetuksessa kasassa, vaan käytännössä nykyään aina kävellessä putki aukeaa maksimiasentoonsa, siis siihen 200mm asentoon ja sen jälkeen se kolisee vähän joka paikkaan. Jos tuo olisi kunnossa, niin arvosanat olisivat vielä paremmat.

This lens covers all focal lengths for every-day use without being too large or heavy. The optical quality is exceptional for such a zoom.

Erinomainen zoom-linssi kaikenlaiseen käyttöön. Ei ehkä täytä ammattilaisten kuvanlaatukriteereitä, mutta antaa taviksien rahoille vastinetta. Itsellä oli tämä linssi mukana joka reissulla reilun 7 vuoden ajan. On tullut otettua useita tuhansia kuvia. Todella tyytyväinen tuotteeseen.

Viime viikolla zoom mekanismi antoi periksi ja etsin uutta linssiä, mutta vaikea löytää mitään vastaavaa samalla hinta/laatu/käytännöllisyys suhteella. Harkitsen vakavasti saman linssin hankkimista uudestaan...

I got this EF-S 18-200mm and my EOS&0Dw on Christmas even so had lots of time over the holiday to play (u'mm practise) with the set-up. It is brilliant. I am amazed at the pictures I have managed to take even getting a Highly Commended in my first ever photo competition. The lens gives a very sharp picture, is fast to respond to the auto-focus. The image stabiliser is marvellous and knock the spots off my mates Nikon (our opinion anyway) For it's size the lens isn't heavy although as this is my fist telephoto with all the electrical gizmo's I don't have a lot to compare it to.

My only reservation is that Canon really ought to sort out a x2 Tele-extender. I love stargazing and my one ambition is to photo the stars and planets. . the 18-200mm is not quite up to the mark for that so being very picky it only gets 4 stars. I'd have to bin the lens and go for EF lenses as huge expense to carry out my dream which is just a no no. I appreciate the make-up of the ES-S lenses needs to be as it is to house everything but a slightly longer extender should be possible to produce for a company like Canon.

Other than that niggle, it is marvellous and I consider myself very lucky to have it.
