Really pleased with the Magnification, clarity and sharpness.

I've wanted a macro lens for years, but always struggled to justify it, given it's quite niche usage.

(Yes it does make a nice portrait lens, however it's at the longer end of the focal length for that, and again quite specific to shooting facial portraits)

Anyway, I'm happy I made the investment, it's quick and sharp like nothing else.

The AF coupled with an R6 MK2 is lightning fast, really impressed.

Is it cheap, no... Is anything cheap nowadays, definitely no, should that be a justification for high pricing, also no...

But, it's a really nice quality lens, wirh my only gripe being that canon needs to get their act together and supply a decent protective case with it.

If you buy a Sigma lens, you get a protective soft case, if you buy a canon lens you get a drawstring bag... That's not on.

I bought this lens about a month ago. I'm into nature photography and this Marco lens just adds to the collection of lens. Only take photos of bees, spiders etc at the moment, but really think this lens is superb. Still to learn a lot with this lens.

Traded in my EF macro for the RF macro and I am definitely pleased with the performance, just waiting for more sun to take some butterfly close ups.

Near framefilling shots possible for minimal cropping. Autofocus brilliant, even when near/at, minimum focus distance. Opens up a whole new world when photography insects.

Having taken photos since 1967 I have never before owned a true macro lens. I am now wondering why I didn't buy one years ago ! The image quality of the Canon RF 100mm f2.8 macro lens is truly superb. The detail it brings out in extreme close ups has to be seen to be believed. It really has opened up a completely new photographic world to me. If you don't already own a true macro lens, I can't recommend this lens highly enough.

I have used this lens for a month or so , mostly for macro work.It has performed very well and I have been impressed by how well the AF has performed in situations where with other lenses I would have had to resort to manual focus. I have not found a use for the spherical aberration control which seems to be a pointless extra.

Ostin objektiivin makrovalokuvaamista varten. Objektiivin terävyys vakuuttaa jo f/2.8 aukolla - vaikka runkona on EOS R5, niin tuntuu että objektiivi löytää lähi- ja kaukokuvauksessa yksityiskohtia paikoista joista niitä ei olettanut löytyvän. Dual Nano USM -tarkennusmoottori tarkentaa melko vikkelään, mutta ei ole ihan niin hiljainen kuin esim. RF 14-35 tai RF 24-105 objektiivin tarkennus. Kuvanvakain pitää myös selkeästi kuultavissa olevaa ääntä, mutta se ei onneksi haittaa. Vakautus toimii myös melko hyvin - käsivaralla kuvattuna saa teräviä kuvia vielä 1/20s valotusajalla (pidempiä en ole vielä ehtinyt testata). Objektiivissa on pientä "focus shift" -ilmiötä havaittavissa jos käyttää muuta kuin f/2.8 aukkoa, joten jos kuvailee pienellä aukolla kannattaa harkita manuaalitarkennusta ja aperture preview -toimintoa. Itselle ei ole vielä tullut ongelmaksi. Spherical Aberration -säädölle en ole vielä keksinyt käyttöä, koska kuvaystyyliini ei kuulu pisteittäisen valonlähteiden / bokeh:n valokuvaus.

Objektiivi soveltuu myös muotokuvaukseen, eli tämä objektiivi täyttää sekä makro- että muotokuvaajan tarpeet. Seuraavana hankintalistalla on varmaan Canonin MR-14EX II -rengassalama, sillä 1.4x-suurennoksella kuvattaessa f/2.8 aukon nimellinen arvo on 2.8*(1.4 + 1) = f/6.72. Jos kuvaisi f/11 aukolla, tämä on silloin 1.4x suurennoksella käsittämättömän pieni f/26, joten lisävalolle todellakin tulee tarvetta.

Suosittelen objektiivia makro- ja muotokuvaukseen, jos sinulta löytyy Canonin R-sarjan peilitön järjestelmäkamera. Muita vaihtoehtoja tälle mountille ei oikein ole kuin EF 100mm f2.8L MACRO IS USM ja Sigman vastike, mutta RF-objektiivin parannettu 1.4x suurennos, parempi kuvanlaatu ja RF-bajonetin tuomat parannukset (tehokkaampi kuvanvakautus, nopeampi ja tarkempi automaattitarkennus) tekevät tästä järkevän hankinnan jos et ennestään jo omista Canonin makro-objektiivia.

I wanted to get into macro and focus stacking. I’ve never done it before but decided after a lot of reading to go for it. This lens is that good and when connected to my R5, makes it look like I’ve been doing it for years.

Not sure why the SA feature is there, when paying this sort of money to get razor sharp pictures to be proud of why would you want to degrade the quality? For me a pointless feature on an amazing lens.

Great lens lighter than expected (which is a nice thing) still 100% happy, sharp images and quiet focus

Bought this last month to replace my old EF100mm.

Pictures so far look amazing and it feels nice and light on my EOS R.

Not convinced I have any use for the SA ring which just softens the focus but I do like the fact it has 1.4x magnification.

Like the new 1.4 gives that little lift

Bought this lens 4 months ago specifically for macro work. It has taken some getting used to and as for the effect ring, hmmm, that is an open book. That aside the lens is amazing providing stunning detail, colour and depth and at f2.8 super fast. I am still learning it even now although I have not made a point to go out on a specific macro shoot. A few days ago I used it to good effect for a few sets of focus bracketed shots on the R5 body and the results are again stunning. If like me you may be weighing up whether you need it or not, try to borrow or rent one, give it a go. I am sure it will help you make your mind up as it is one of my favourite lenses now.

I bought this lens particularly for close up wildlife photography and it is superb if you can get close enough. As an alternative, I use the RF 100-500 lens which is also excellent for close ups from further away.

I use this for both indoors and outdoors macro work Have the maximum size at 1.4 is a bonus, Glassware is brilliant and the weight is lighter than one would expect, but the quality of images are not compromised.

I upgraded from the 100mmL EF macro and I have been immediately pleased with the results. The lens is stunning, whether mounted on a tripod, used for focus-stacked images or handheld.

It is an amazing lens for portraits and great for Macro.

But why Canon puts the control ring on I don't know; as with the RF 24-70 2.8 take the control ring off reduce size weight and cost.

Changed from EF to RF version. Sharpness slightly improved. Stabilization also improved with added bonus of 1.4 magnification ( extension tubes now used much less). Manual focus ring is smooth and accurate. SA control will stay locked ( not for me ). Disappointed with design of tripod ring having to use plastic adapter makes removal refitting fiddly, but does rotate smoothly and lock securely. price for ring also extortionate. Overall pleased with improved spec , excellent lens.

had this lens for a while now and love the quality and the feel of it, Canon has done a great job with this lens for pros and armatures. I would recommend this lens for macro photography .

Great image quality, super fast autofocus, what’s not to like?

Right, please don’t consider me an expert in macro, I bought this lens to learn and discover a new form of photography. I love it. The world gets so much bigger when you’re searching for small details. Fast autofocus but macro does require patience and reframing a lot. But holy hell. I love it.

I thought the EF version was good, this is even better.

When I first read the reviews and the feedback of the fortunate photographers using this lens before release, i was expecting this to be a great lens.... and when I finally got mine (preordered as soon as it was possible) i went out to test it. And i was blown away! This is much better than what I thought: sharp, fast, light, IS works beautifully, perfect for handholding, and the list goes on... this really is a great addition to the RF lineup and my kitbag. Have not really tried sufficiently the SA control on it, but so far I am astonished.
