Superb lens, great build quality and performance. I used the EF 70-200 f/4L for many years as my travel lens, and since upgrading to an R6 had to use it with an adapter. That slight inconvenience and the fact that the old lens was battered by use and the manual focus stopped working, made me go for an upgrade. So far, my experience of the RF 70-200 f/4 is excellent. Really looking forward to many more years of travel with my new purchase.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago for my R5 and I cannot fault it in any way. Last weekend I attended a motorsports hill climb event and the combination of lens and camera gave me a 98% keep rate. I think I discarded 3 out of 200 images because they were not quite pin sharp, but still they weren't bad. The other 197 shots were pin sharp and beautiful colours. Typically I was shooting at 1/800th to 1/1000th sec, at f/5.6. On one shot of a passing Porsche doing c. 50mph (ƒ/5.6 1/800 104 mm ISO250) you can actually see the (lady) driver's eyelashes ! But the BEST thing is the size and weight - it fits in a compact camera case and you don't notice you're carrying it. 10 out of 10 unreservedly.

This is a game-changer! The compactness of this zoom in combination with the excellent build quality, AF and sharpness truly makes carrying a 70-200mm zoom on walks & hikes with its sister lens the RF 24-105mm f4L a breeze for everyone. Really nothing to complain about at all.

I took this lens with my R6 to an outdoor evening shoot of a lantern display at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. My eyesight is limited anyway so I struggled to see where I was going but when I got back home the images were all wonderfully sharp thanks to the excellent way the AF does it's job. I'd not have got the shots I managed with anything other than a zoom lens and the range on this one proved ideal.

I've owned the 70-200 f4 IS L lens for many years and have been very pleased with the quality both of the lens itself and the results I have got when using it. Having moved to the EOS R5, I decided to go for the RF equivalent after trying it on the Canon stand at the Birmingham Photography Show. I was impressed at how it felt on the R5, its weight and size were also an attractive feature.

Having experience with the lens now, I find I am using this focal range far more than before because it's an easy choice to leave it on the camera for an extended period when out shooting. Whilst locked at 70mm when walking, my camera feels far less cumbersome and lighter to carry, the results are excellent and with such good image stabilisation with the R5 I'm using my tripod less. This lens is helping me find new compositions and ways of working. For me, purchasing it was absolutely the right thing to do.

I compared this to the short term in my ownership 70-200 2,8 iii and image quality was same If not shaper on this RF F4 version, believe me I was looking for reasons to keep the 2.8 ef version but thought I'd benefit from the compact size and smaller kit bag to carry around over long events and at no sacrifice over image quality.

I have had this lens for two weeks after a few days of quite intensive use, I see that I have not wasted my money in vain. The lens sharpens the image nicely, at a greater distance as well as the minimum distance. Only what at this price could be used more metal, not plastic

I've have had this for about 2 weeks and it's becoming my favourite lens. It's about the same size / weight as my EF 24-105mm L f4 and EF 16-35mm L f4. I had considered the original EF 70-200mm but using this without the RF-EF adaptor make it so much smaller on the camera. For landscape and relatively close wildlife in parkland it's superb and is light enough to carry pretty much the whole day. Images on my EOS R are tack sharp and even with an f4 aperture, depth of field on close subject is shallow enough to really isolate your subject and leave some nice and soft background. For longer shots clarity and contrast and excellent. There is obviously a little distortion at either end of the zoom range as with all such lenses but you have to look for it, much the same for colour fringing. Overall an excellent, compact telephoto zoom lens

I bought the RF 70-200mm f2.8 on December 2019, immediately after its announcement. Great lens. This f4.0 version is my new best buddy for landscape photography. The difference in weight (300g less), and its compactness make it a perfect companion for long hikes with minimal but irrelevant compromises on quality (f4.0 vs f2.8). I expect the utilization of the f2.8 to decrease significantly in the months to come thanks to the higher portability of the f4.0 version.
