Simple, lightweight and effective.
I bought thos lens with a view to taking longer range wildlife pictures, with a 600mm it was always at maximum focal length so an additional 200mm wouldn't go a miss .
It is very light and can be fitted with the Extender RF2 giving additional distance advantage.
It only has one focal length but that isn't a problem baring in mind it's intended use.
Fantastic lens
I bought this lens a few weeks ago and have now had time to test it out on a few occasions. I have been thoroughly impressed so far with the lens. I use it with the canon r10 and the image quality has been excellent. I bought the lens mainly for wildlife photography and the results have been brilliant. Even with it being f11 the quality has been excellent with brilliant detail. I have also used it for landscape shots, taking some pics of the Bass rock of the coast of North Berwick. The Bass Rock is 3.5 miles out at sea and the lens got some stunning shots zooming closely in on the lighthouse and captured it really crisp and clear. Looking forward to getting out with this lens more and seeing what I can capture with it.

Pro Quality at affordable price!
Good day everyone, I purchased this lens to photograph wildlife in various environments where a far distance must be kept in order to not scary animals or to be safe myself, as in the case of a wolf pack, when it's better to stay away, especially when alone. As I am a wildlife photographer (based in central Europe) my usual photo-targets consist of all kinds of birds, mammals big and small and at some rare occasions a reptile or two. I am very satisfied as the lens gives me superb results, and makes the photos shot a really high quality works of art. I am fascinated by its reach (1280 milimiters with the Canon R10's APS-C multiplier) and the fact that it shots easily even handheld being so incredibly lightweight as for a 1280mm. The fact that it allows bird eye autofocus is a proverbial icing on the cake. When it collapses for travel it fits perfectly into my Canon 200 EG backpack even mounted to the Canon R10 body! It is a beast of a lens (postively) and I strongly recommend for wildlife.

Classic workmanship from Canon.
Easy to use, my first long lens. My photo of the moon even caught the craters when I zoomed in. Magical!
Great reach, light to carry and hold but no weatherproofing.
I bought this second hand and am pleased that I did. It gives me great reach for wildlife in our garden and is light enough to carry on my walks. So far the fixed f11 aperture has not been a problem since I don't obsess about high ISO. The lack of weatherproofing is a concern
Good value for the price
For a £1000 lens it is a good piece of kit for long range static shots using medium to high shutter speeds. Attempting to shoot a flying propeller driven plane at slow shutter speed proved difficult and unfortunately could not get the result I desired, practising should help. Photo quality using my R5 body is good considering the fixed f11 aperture and with the light weight makes this a good purchase.
Great results on a budget.
I bought this lens at the same time as the R7. The results are beyond my dreams. I have great reach and stability. I can even take photographs hand held although I do like to use some support e.g. a wall or tree to lean against.
Wonderful lenses
I got the canon rf 800 mm 6 weeks ago and have to say it’s a very impressive lens and along with my canon R7 it works a treat for wildlife photography
An amazing lens.
Its transformed my whole approach to bird photography! Coupled with the new R7 it is lightweight, eye focus is brilliant, no tripod needed as stabiliser is awesome .A brilliant lens!
Works perfectly, just remember it is an f11
The lens works well. It is light enough and folds down to a good size for portability. The only issue I had was getting over excited with 800mm and not appreciating it is f11. But once I started using it as 800mm/f11 lens, the results were perfect.
Super sharp results
A really interesting lens that offers a considerable focal length at a great price. Paired with the R5 it produces excellent quality images and is particularly useful for bird photography. It’s light weight and portability add to its attraction. There are some limitations due to the f/11 aperture, but the low light performance of the R5,R6 and R7 is so good that this lens is still useable in less than optimal conditions. Minimum focus distance of about 3 metres and lack of weather sealing limits the utility to a degree but overall this a great value for money lens
Using the 800mm RF lens
Have used this lens (along with RF 600mm f11 and RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1 L lenses plus 1.4x extender) for wildlife photography to obtain some excellent results. I use the R6 and R5 camera and they cope well with high ISO values but software dedicated to dealing with high and very high ISO values means I can use ISO values as high as 52000.
Hienoja lintukuvia olen saanut!

Fantastic lens
I purchased this lens not knowing what i would get, a lens that works great or something i wont use much as it has to be a really sunny day to use it. Well, i took it out one evening to take pictures of a Barn Owl out on the prowl and it took great, sharp images. I did need to boost exposure post processing but i am so pleased with the results i am going to ignore all those remarks expressing this lens is not as good as it is.
Very good-but!
Disappointing there’s no lens hood, purchased 3rd party hood
Disappointing no tripod mount, purchased 3rd party mount.
These should be standard, 3rd party items are so much less expensive, I feel you are letting a very good product down by try to keep the price down..
cracking lens, get your act together please Canon.
Great budget telephoto lens.
Now had this lens a couple of months nailed onto the front of a EOS R6 and frankly, I'm loving it. This combination has really helped improve my wildlife photography and made life easier simply because this setup is so light. Compared to an equivalent top end telephoto lens, the RF 800mm is so light and easy to carry and use, meaning you can shot freehand for longer without the arm ache. The restriction of focusing area due to the fixed f11 is a minor issue, hence the 4*s but for most wildlife photography is not really a problem. Overall I'm very happy with the lens and enjoying using it
A great lightweight lens
I bought this a few months ago for shooting birds. It is great for the reach but the F11 aperture means that it is only really good for stationary birds. The aperture also restricts the effectiveness of the autofocus on my R5 and R3. It is though great value for money and nice and light.
One of my favourite lenses
I love this lens, it is light weight and gives you that extra reach when you need it. I often use it when at the beach for the waders that are too far out to get with other lenses.
Unbelievable
When I first bought this lens I wasn’t expecting a lot, how wrong was I this lens is great could not believe how good it was.
What a surprise!
After a lot of searching and internet browsing as I was not sure this would work on my EOS R (all the reviews and testing was done on newer R5/6 bodies and i was concerned my R would not be able to "cope", i decided to buy this lens and... I must say i have been really impressed since getting it; this really works. For sure there is some limitations and yes, one has to learn how to "use" a 800mm lens, but the images I am able to get with this one are really cool. Small garden birds now can "fill the frame" and images of the moon look fantastic... and all this in a very affordable package compared to other similar focal lenghts in the lineup... paired with the R3 is a similar story, with the advantage of better high ISO and focus capability of the camera.
Better than expected in all respects
I needed more reach than my 100-400 with 1.4 extender so I took the plunge and got the RF800mm f/11, and boy am I a happy bunny now. I was immediately happy with the relatively light weight and fast focussing even with the eye detect in operation. My only struggle has been my inabity to keep birds in flight inside the AF zone in the centre. I think it's due to lack of practice and not a fault of the lens. For photos of small birds on perches/branches etc the lens is brilliant, even in low light (used on my R6) I have got several shots in the last month that I simply couldn't have got with the 100-400 brilliant as it is. I'm also delighted with the bokeh achievable with an f/11 lens. I now leave the lens on almost all of the time and keep looking for ways to utilise it's reach. Easily one of the most satisfying lens purchases I've ever made in terms of waht I can now do that I couldn't before.

Perfect for nature
Bought this to go with new R5 and compliment my 100-400L lens. I didnt want to go for a x2 or x1.4 converter for the EF lenses so went with this. Very pleased with outcomes so far.

Luontokuvaajan ”Taskuraketti”
Objektiivi on hämmästyttävän kevyt, vaikka polttoväli on 800mm. Kiinteän ja varsin pienen aukon avulla objektiivin painossa ja koossa on pystytty tekemään kompromisseja. Kiinnitys kolmijalkaan löytyy, mutta käytön ja kantamisen helpottamiseksi kannattaa harkita erillisen iShoot kolmijalkakiinnitysrenkaan ostamista.
Kuvanlaatu on hyvä - hintaisekseen yllättävän hyvä. Kunhan tarkennus osuu kohdilleen, on piirto kaunista.
Luontokuvaaja25–34v Does the Job Surprisingly well!
Much of my photography is travel and architecture but I have a longing to get closer to wildlife. When visiting Orkney last year, I was astounded by the abundance of wildlife. My 100-400mm mkII with a 1.4 extender did sterling service but those Puffins, Guillemots, and Razorbills have an annoying skill of nesting on the most distant, inaccessible cliff edges! I needed more reach! So, much to the annoyance of my wife, I bought the new RF 800mm f11 prime as a Christmas present to me from me! (Better than socks! To smooth ruffled feathers I also bought my wife a new Dell laptop to replace her old one which was going slower and slower).
My first test shot of Green Woodpecker on our lawn taken through the glass of the lounge window showed excellent colour, contrast, and detail. I was delighted. The lens is a perfect match to my R6. Focusing using "animal eye" is much, much better than using a DSLR. Gone the days when the birds rear was in focus but the eye and beak slightly blurred.
I tried the lens and a black headed gull on the local boating lake. Dusk was approaching with black clouds over head but the excellent low light capability of the R6 produced a lovely image of the white gull swimming through inky black wavelets
The image stabilisation is so good hand held shots are sharp despite my shaky grip making it difficult at times to keep the subject still & centred in the viewfinder. Another issue is that the image focusing area in the viewfinder is limited to a centre square. Still these are small sacrifices to get a remarkable lens at the fraction of f2.8/f4 professional lens price.
If I didn't already have the 100-400mm lens I would have bought the 600mm version simply because its easier to use.
