Happily Canonized
It took over a year for me to be persuaded to de-Nikonify (after ten years) and become Canonized. This ultimately because of a forthcoming photographic safari to Kenya where the leaders are Canon users. Not to mention the trouble I have had historically with my Nikon kit, all of which is sold.
I can only say I am astonished at the clarity of the R5 performance and with the ergonomic ease of use. I also love the lightness of body and the placement of buttons - and especially the visual reminders inside the viewfinder for which dial to rotate for manual adjustments. I shall be applying shortcuts to buttons soon, as soon as I am digitally fluent.
As for photo quality and reliability: quite extraordinary.

Excellent camera
I bought this to replace a much loved 5D mkiv so it had a lot to live up to.....it has! I love being able to see exactly what I'm taking in the viewfinder, getting the right exposure is so easy. I'm still getting to grips with the menu options but I'm sure it will be a worthy replacement. The viewfinder is excellent and very adaptable to personal taste.
R5
I have had it for three months now and happy with it.
Fantastic camera
Fantastic camera. so very very pleased I ended up with this one...
Photography on another level!
Upgraded from Canon 90D DSLR to the Canon R5 mirrorless, and was definitely the right decision.
I already have a couple of EF L-series lenses; f/2.8 70-200mm and f/2.8 24-70mm, so the images from the 90D were great (I still have a 90D), however, now using these lenses (with the adapter) the images are on another level.
Very, very happy.
Just need the 400mm f/2.8 L-series to complete the "holy trilogy" of sports photography glass... just need to save for a few years!!

What a sensor!
When I took advantage of a Canon Test Drive weekend hire of the R5, I had a trip to Dovercourt lighthouses planned for long exposures. When I got the photos home afterwards, I realised just how much of an advantage it can be to have all those megapixels. I already had an R6 that I loved for the speed and low light capability, but there were a few times when I wanted to crop in tighter and couldn’t without pixelation. The R5 obviously doesn’t have the same issue and coupled with the unbeatable autofocus, makes a great combo if you want the finest detail. Despite the well known issues with overheating, for what I need, it’s not a problem. I can’t attest much to the video capacity as I’m principally a photographer but I love how tight I can crop in on macro shots and how little I rely on a tripod for stability now. If I’m not using filters, I can hand hold and get super sharp pictures. Paired with the RF lenses, the weight saving over my DSLR and EF lenses of the same focal length is a game changer.
I excellent
Love it. Helping me to up my game with my content creation.
Lovely new camera
I bought this a month ago and was sent an email today to review it after receiving an email advertising the MkII.
R5 - Great piece of kit !!
Bought the R5 as an upgrade to the RP, mainly to be used for the extremes of Birds and Macro... Love it !!
Excellent gear
I bought it over a month ago and been using it almost every day since. Picture quality is amazing, easy menu and I am still discovering new options. My EF lenses fit perfectly with an adapter and work even better than before.
superb image quality
This is my second EOS R5, the image quality is second to none and that why I purchase a second body.
Best camera I ever had.
The featutes that make this camera great are the ones that truly help to make it easier to use.
Great features
I have had a lot of fun using my R5 and the features and displays are simple and clear.
Fabulous, light and superb definition
I bought my first mirror less Canon after years of Canon DSLRs to lighten the load I had to carry. I added the R5 specifically for a photographic safari. It was marvellous and was the only camera body I needed with a 100-500mm lens. Fantastic results. The difficulty is to choose which are the best images to work up, from so many good pictures
Huikean paljon ominaisuuksia!
Todella hyvä kamera. Helppo käyttää tuttujen Canon- valikoiden ansiosta. Laadukkaan oloinen kuten tämän hintaluokan kameran olettaakin olevan. Pieni näyttö kameran päällä ehdottomasti plussaa. Voin suositella lämpimästi!
Very noisy sensor in low light even at low ISOs
Very noisy sensor in low light even at low ISOs. Weak built-in image stabilization with lenses without optical stabilization.
A useful upgrade from my 5Div
As a strictly hobby photographer interested in travel/landscape/wildlife I've been very happy with my 5D over the years, and have a good range of EF lenses. I've been contemplating the jump to mirrorless for a couple of years and finally took the plunge a month ago.
I dithered for a while between the R6ii with it's later generation autofocus and higher frame rate, and the R5 with it's higher pixel count and higher res viewfinder. I went for the R5 and I'm happy with the choice, for my purposes. It feels well built, tho not perhaps as rugged as the 5D. The menu system and button layout are familiar and easy to navigate. There are some well-publicised limitations for video work, but they're not a problem for me.
Really like the IBIS, high res viewfinder, and flip/rotate screen- they make life so much easier. Most of my lenses have no, or early generation IBIS and getting 4 to 5 stop IS on -for example- the 24-70 f2.8 ii is a useful bonus. The viewfinder zoom is excellent for manual focus.
The dynamic range and high ISO performance are noticeably better than the 5Div (tho' I have been perfectly happy with the 5D on that score) , and the extra pixels are handy. The autofocus is in a different league altogether, though I expect the newer models are better yet. I use back-button focus with the AF-on button set for spot AF and the * button for eye detect. My EF lenses seem to work perfectly with fast and accurate focus, and give a good frame rate- even my old 500 F4 IS. No doubt the R lenses are better, but I can't justify the cost and I'm happy with my EF lenses so far.
Battery life is poor, particularly using the 500 F4 with IS on. I'm typically getting a bit over 200 frames from a fully charged battery- the 5D did 3 times that. But all my 6E batteries work so it's no problem to carry a few spares.
Overall I'm, very happy with the choice. Still getting used to it and learning to the get the best from it, but it's definitely a keeper.

Huippukamera huonolla akunkestolla
Sami45–54v Great camera shame about the cash back
Fantastic camera but I’ve been eating over 4 weeks for the cash back on the camera and a lens
Loistava
Ihastuin ensimmäisenä tarkennuksen nopeuteen ja tarkkuuteen, kaikki säätimet tuntuvat sopivan minun käsille ilman että tarvitsee irrottaa katsetta etsimestä ja etsiä sijaintia. Olen todella tyytyväinen hankintaan.
Amazing features stunning results
So bought the R5 about a month ago as an upgrade to the EOS5DS which has served me amazing well for some years, however despite the image quality I missed a pull out screen, ISO restrictions and image stabilisation…..which the R5 offers and delivers in abundance. Coupled to the Canon 24-240mm lens it means I am much more likely to have my camera with me and less likely to miss a photographic opportunity, which is absolutely great…😊
Upgrade EOS R6 to EOS R5
I was very happy with my R6 but upgraded to the R5 purely to get the higher pixel count (20.5 MP to 45MP), so this review is a comparison between the two cameras. Handling the cameras I slightly prefer the R6, it is slightly lighter and I actually liked the retro programme selector. The added EVF screen resolution on the R5 is brilliant, I was surprised it puts you far more in contact with the shot. As with the R6 all controls are intuitive and very precise, the camera is very pleasant to use. I was also pleasantly shocked even on my 24" monitor on the improvement in image quality. The R5 has superb detail, and far better depth perspective into the frame. and something I was not expecting enhance and richer colour depth. I don't think other reviews have emphasised enough this jump in image quality on the R5, it is a brilliant camera.
