Present purchase
Arvosana 5/5This was bought for our son who is the photographer for Chelmsford Chieftains Ice Hockey team. He was very pleased with it and is using it at the National play offs at Alexandra Palace this weekend
Excellent canon camera
Arvosana 5/5The best canon camera I have ever use
Very very good but difficult……
Arvosana 5/5Moved from the 1DX to the mk3 and WOW so much faster, more functionality and the best thing autofocus during video recording. I didn't buy it because of this but it’s a bonus. All the functions and layout are the same as my 1dx but I’m struggling to set up the autofocus especially when in servo mode and tracking, I wish I’d wrote down the settings I had on my 1dx as I’d got that about right but I can’t remember what I’d set it to. Would be nice for canon to do a video showing how to set for various subjects it would help me greatly. Other than that I think it’s the best camera I’ve had and I’ve had a few in the 1D series of cameras. I’m not a fan of EVF’s but I did look at the R3 but as all my glass is EF I stuck with the DSLR.
DSLR'S Aren't Dead Yet! What a Camera..
Arvosana 5/5As a Professional Wildlife & Conservation photographer I need equipment robust enough to survive in the harshest of conditions. The Canon 1DX MK III allows me to operate from hot dry environments to cold below freezing conditions and be able to cope with whatever mother nature throws at me. As a R3 and R7 user I need a Pro body that can last in terms of battery life and the DX III's battery can take in excess of 2500 shots on a single charge, something that Mirrorless still cannot do... Love it and it works well alongside my other Canon kit.

Fast as lightning
Arvosana 5/5I had been dithering about whether to upgrade my 1D MkIV for a while, and I’m so glad to have decided that the 1DX MkIII was the one to go for. It has really helped to catch those fleeting moments and expressions, and is a joy to use. Battery life is fantastic as well, so no need to worry about a day’s shooting.
Luotettavuus verrattuna peilittömiin on ehdoton
Kuvausnopeus on minulle riittävä (20). Myöskin hämärässä kuvatessa voi käyttää todella isoja ISOarvoja. Muotoilu sekä kestävyys on erittäin hyvä. Työkalu.
It is the Canon Flagship for a reason
Arvosana 5/5I bought this camera to complement (and to take a step up from) my Canon 5D mk iv. Since I bought it, I've used it extensively here in the UK for taking photographs of our resident wildlife and I've also taken it to Vancouver Island, Canada, Uganda and the Galapagos to photograph the wildlife there for prints, calendars and greeting cards. I'm a semi pro photographer which means all of my work is available for free, well, free in exchange for a donation to the charity I support. Being able to capture images that people will pay good money for adds a certain amount of pressure, so I need a camera that will deliver every time and boy does this beast deliver! It is great when it is coupled to my Canon ef f4 500mm L mk ii and also with the Canon ef 100-400mm L mk ii. It also works well with my wider angle Canon L lenses. In truth, it is a very heavy camera but it is so well well balanced that I am fortunate enough to be able to hand hold it with both of these lenses. Although, I must admit, I am quite tired by the end of the day. The weather sealing is amazing and it is so robust that it copes easily with travelling. The battery life is amazing and having two ultra fast cards means that that I never struggle with buffering and downloading the images is fast too. It is almost perfect for me...Image quality is fantastic and the low light performance is amazing. Even using very high iso doesn't seem to cause much of a problem.
I'm making it sound perfect aren't I, so can it be improved? well I do think that Canon should be able to provide a firmware update to bring the AF tracking in line with the R5, R6 and R3 and then it really would be the undisputed Flagship.
I realise that mirrorless is probably the way to go in the future but I am really reluctant to part with a camera that has such a proven track record of development and performance. C'mon Canon support the 1DX mk iii just one more time!
A Last Hurrah For The DSLR?
Arvosana 5/5As a Seascape photographer who shoots Atlantic storms, I need a rugged, weatherproof camera that works with me, sees what I see, and has the focussing capability to cut through the flying spume and wild reflections, to capture a fleeting moment.
So when I read that the Canon 1DX MkIII had an intuitive focussing system similar to the 'R' series mirrorless systems, my interest was piqued. For the most important requirement in my approach is to constantly monitor the action through the viewfinder to conduct and compose around the wave set patterns watching for a perfect moment. My trusty old 1DS MkIII was a stunning camera (and I hold on to it to this day), yet in truth it struggled to continuously focus amongst the swirling murk of a howling winter storm. Therefore as technology moved on, so did I, and so did my 'storm shoot' approach. My 1DX MkII was a very good workhorse that served me well. But there still were those occasional, frustrating times when when I was panning with a huge rolling breaker waiting for the foaming crest to fly and just as I pressed the trigger the focus would slip and the long lens would be left scrabbling to grab onto something tangible and my moment was lost to a churning cacophony of broken white water.
Therefore with all the pomp and promotion surrounding its introduction, I had checked out the 'R' system. Yet I immediately found looking through the mirrorless viewfinder to be a juddery, visually detached 'soul-less' experience. Especially in challenging low light conditions. I need to see the 'live' action. I must be able to watch precisely what is going on and digital viewfinders struggle in respect. As for any weight saving, this is not relevant for me because my 'storm shoot' set-up includes a sturdy tripod with a gimbal head. This lets me sweep across a levelled horizon for hours on end, allows for a multitude of exposure settings and adds welcome stability to both my shots and to me when I am standing on an exposed headland being hammered by a pounding tempest. As such a few less grammes in the camera body don't make up for truly 'seeing' the action.
So I decided that if the 1DX MkIII was going to be Canon's last DSLR 'hurrah' I would dig deep into my wallet and invest in piece of history.
And I thank my lucky stars I did because it is a revelation!
The first time I took my MkIII down on a windswept tideline it felt at home. Even though it was encased in a shock absorbing rubber jacket and a rain sleeve, all its operations were easy to control and direct. I could readily manipulate the incredibly precise focussing settings and the camera came to life in my hands. It was just so quick! It seemingly picked up on just what I was looking at. Thereafter it was like my MkIII was knew exactly what I was looking for, seeing the evolving action and literally seizing my moment. And the one after that... and then the next... and the next... With a seamless, faultless, precision that was just so quick and so intuitive.
I have lived with my MkIII now for about a year and even in the wildest, murkiest gloom the focussing and low level light capabilities it has rarely let me down. I can pan across a raging break, pick out a fleeting glimpse and with a solid 'click' the action is snapped up. Deep in the heart of body the CF Express cards devour the data in a blink and ready to grab the next shot. It is a true imaging thoroughbred and a testament to Canon's long line of DSLR manufacturing excellence. If the 1DX MKIII is to be their last, then I will hold on to mine and treasure it for years to come.
Quality Product
Arvosana 5/5I had always strove to have a top of the range Canon SLR and eventually realised my wish.
Canon 1DX MK3
Arvosana 5/5Perfect DSLR for sports photography or any professional photography for that matter if you need speed such as news photos. Feels like the Rolls Royce compared to anything I've used before.
