Canon EF-S 35mm f/2.8 Macro IS STM -objektiivi

Wanted a macro lens for an oldish Canon EOS 400D to photograph 35mm slides (against a light box) as if set up properly it would be a lot faster than scanning them, and good enough to identify those worthy of proper scanning. Pleased to say that a 35mm slide fills the frame, in focus. I've built a jig which anchors a slide holder (with bellows) to the camera body so everything is stable and long exposures are not affected by camera shake.

And having the lens, today I used it to photograph tiny engravings inside the back of an old pocket watch case - they were hardly visible to the naked eye, but with decent light aided by the built in LEDs, no problem. Manual focus seemed to work better than autofocus but that could be because of the slight curvature of the watch case and/or reflections as it was quite shiny.

All in all, very pleased with this.
