After a software update, suddenly does not work with non-Brother ink - no way to override the warning. I already had bought a box of cartridges from a vendor that is cheaper than Brother and has been working fine for years. Cheeky attempt at trying to drive revenue through ink sales.

I bought this printer about 3-4 months ago & it is the best printer I have ever had.

I prevoiusly bought 2 printers prior to this & had nothing but trouble with them.

It is easy to connect to get up & running. It is only used for personnel, so not used very often but always wakes up with no problems.

My top-end Canon multifunction printer was rendered useless when Canon stopped updating its printer drivers in line with the Mac's regularly updated OS versions. (I find this built-in obsolesce infuriating). I needed a good all-round printer for work, and occasional home use including the odd photograph. My budget was tight so I looked at many brands and models before choosing the Brother DCP-J774.

I have had the machine for 2-3 months and so far I think it represents excellent value for money. The machine was fairly easy to set-up, and it has not let me down since. There have been no paper jams, or smudged ink or any printing failures. The automatic double-sided printing feature saves on paper and is easy to use.

For work documents the quality exceeded my (quite high) expectations. It is not the fastest printer, but can comfortably handle large documents if you are not in a rush. Photo quality does not quite match the dedicated and expensive photo printers with 5 or 6 separate inks, but is still very good - definitely adequate for most work or school photo printing. Scanning is also easy and of good quality.

The touch screen is small, but works well enough and the wifi - which has been notoriously bad on some of the printers I have had - has been great, allowing me to print wirelessly from PCs and Mac devices around the house. When I bought it, the printer was available only in a cream colour which is fine but, with more people working from home these days, I would suggest Brother makes its printers available in other colours to match people's home decor.

If I had to find any criticism it would be that its plastic paper trays are a bit flimsy, (although that is par for the course these days), and that on the Mac it does not appear to offer a "draft" printing option to save on ink? You can, however, easily select to print only in black and white rather than using up your coloured ink.

The DCP-J774 is nicely designed. It is a compact and unobtrusive machine. Quite quiet when printing compared to my previous printer. It fits well a small study or home work-area - and a I would describe it as a great allrounder that represents great value for money at its price point.

I bought this in Dec-20 and I'm very impressed with it. It is compact, simple to set up and connects easily to both personal and work computers as well as mobile devices via WiFi. It's proved invaluable during lockdown and home schooling being able to print documents quickly and efficiently. The copying and scanning functions work great and the ink is easy to get and fit.

I bought this one to replace my old printer. It is equally as good. I haven't as yet used wirelessly but will be doing. Printing is very clear

I would have given zero stars if I could.

I bought this a few months ago and it regularly displays an error 50 message indicating there is a paper jam or paper caught in the device. Despite the last print run being fine, so sure there is no paper problem, I still go through the required process but at the end it still displays the same message and uses an awful lot of ink in the reset process. This last time it has not solved it after over 20 attempts. I now have a Brother brick - do not buy it.

Not used much but the prints done have been excellent

the print quality is high and fast for such a priced printer. set up simple. no fuss. in fact simplicity of use is this machines trademark.
