Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM -superteleobjektiivi

This lens for me is a feeling, a remarkable and unforgettable experience, a must have lens in your gears, on basis of price and build quality, there is an IS issues, but for me it is a challenge and i take handheld shots. Its worth investing on this amazing lens if you aren’t a big fan of IS.

I have had this lens now for a while and it never stops amazing me how sharp the images are, I do a lot of Wildlife and Bird photography and its my go too lens. Its well made and weather protected so no problems with being outside all day with it regardless of the weather.

I have had this lens for about a month and so I'm still learning how to get the best out of it. I bought it to photograph medieval church sculpture, and it has generally served well, with some good quality images. It is less effective in the poor light situations found within some buildings, but is good externally. The main drawback is an obvious one - while fine in large buildings, it is much more limited in smaller parish churches. It is quite heavy, although that is reassuring in some ways, but I may need to invest in a new tripod.

Mikäli haluaa todella syventyä eläinkuvaukseen luonnossa, tämä objektiivi on oikea valinta. Kuvan terävyys on hyvin lähelle yhtä hyvä kuin kymppitonnin linsseissä, vain tele on lyhyempi. Pienten lintujen kuvaaminen ei lähtökohtaisestikaan ole helppoa, eikä sitä tehdä 800mm objektiiveilla, joten sijoita rahasi tähän ja etsi oikeat keinot päästä viiden metrin päähän linnuista. Nisäkkäät kuvaat tällä vaikka parin sadan metrin päästä terävänä kuin mikä.

I'm using this lens and an EOS 700D on an internet controlled astrograph. The build and the image quality over the entire field are both absolutely superb. Ultimate picture quality appears to be limited by the camera sensor, rather than the lens. Just amazing. Next, a x2 extender.

This lens is not without its limitations, especially here in North West England. If the light is bad then it struggles due to the narrow maximum aperture. However, the high ISO performance of the 7d Mark ii does mitigate this somewhat.

Focus is incredibly fast. Image quality fantastic. The weight is of benefit also, nice and light for trekking about with.

I would recommend, but you must be willing to mitigate for its limitations. Like any technological product, application is everything. Birds in-flight, good light: it's brill.
