I bought the Canon Powershot G5X a few weeks ago from Canon's website and I am so impressed.

I have been taking semi-professional photographs for 15 years, and tried out a lot of compact cameras. This is the first one that I feel has everything:

• Size to fit in a jacket pocket.
• Quality to motivate its price
• Perfect balance of easy to use, while still having several very impressive advanced features!
  
  

I can only recommend this camera to pretty much anyone who wants a fantastic overall camera to grow with.

I bought this camera a few months ago and have been incredibly impressed by the quality of the photos, despite being a compact camera that fits in my jacket pocket. It's both easy to use, but also has great advanced features for the more experienced photographer.

I bought this camera to have as my take anywhere camera, slips easily into my jacket of body warmer. The build quality is superb, I suppose you could call it a semi-pro camera as it does nearly everything my M5 & M50 does but pocketable. It has an excellent zoom range, exposure compensation dial, all the usual shooting settings, good ISO range, I’m glad I bought it when I did as I see the price has crept up, my only small criticism is that in my opinion it’s a little overpriced but you do get one hell of a camera and the photos are excellent.

Love the quality of the manual controls coupled with ability to shoot on fully automatic. Like the fully articulated screen. Bought the camera for general use and travel photography in particular. Looking forward to using it on holiday soon

Aikaisemman näppäilykameran (Ixus) tilalle halusin laadukkaamman, myyjän suosituksesta päädyin Canoniin. Aika lailla sai alkuun opetella uutuuden käyttöä, mutta sitten kun pääsi sinuksi, on käyttö ollut sekä nopeaa että helppoa. Kaikkia ominaisuuksia en ole osannut varmaankaan hyödyntää. Olen ottanut still-kuvia ja videota, videokin on ollut laadultaan hyvä. Still-kuvissa aikaisemman kamerani kenno oli heikko, esim. kauniissa tanssissa Uzbekistanissa sain liikkuneita kuvia, vaikka valaistus oli kuitenkin normaali päivänvalo. Powershot on parempi, mutta ei ihan niin paljon kuin olisin toivonut. Lataus on helppo, ja akun kesto riittävän pitkä, viikon matkalla ei tarvinnut uudestaan ladata.

Mukavan kokoinen kamera, jonka kuvanlaatu vastaa järjestelmäkameraa, mutta kameraa on huomattavasti mukampi kuljettaa mukana. Etsimen kautta näkee aurinkoisellakin säällä tähtäillä. Kannan tätä mukana päivittäin.

Halusin hankkia järjestelmäkamerani rinnalle helpommin mukana kulkevan kameran, joka kuitenkin voittaisi kuvan laadussa halvat digikamerat. Canoniin päädyin, koska olen niitä tottunut käyttämään ja Powershot G5x tuli valittua mm. elektronisen etsimen, kääntyvän näytön ja ihan käsituntuman takia. Kääntyvä näyttö osoittautui heti hyödylliseksi, kun jouduin kuvaamaan väkijoukon yli enkä olisi näyttöä nähnyt suorilta käsiltä muuten. Lisäksi on ollut kätevää sulkea näyttö niin, että näyttö on suojassa. Lisäksi kosketusnäyttö on todella hyvin tehty, ja se ehdottomasti nopeuttaa valikkojen käyttöä ja auttaa tarkentamaan haluttuun kohteeseen. Kokeilin myös käyttää Canonin Camera Connect appia puhelimellani ja se toimi hienosti G5x:ni kanssa. Yhdistäminen oli helppoa ja pystyin kätevästi kaukolaukaisemaan kamerani puhelimeni avulla, sekä siirtämään haluamani kuvat kamerasta puhelimeen. Kuvanlaatu on ollut hyvää omasta mielestäni. Kamera tuntuu hyvältä käsissä ja siitä saa hyvän otteen muotoilun ansiosta. Hinta mielestäni on juuri siinä kipurajoilla, mutta olen nyt todella tyytyväinen valitsemaani kameraan.

Olen kantanut tähän saakka matkoillakin järjestelmäkameraa, mutta en kanna enää. Tämän tasoiset kamerat ajavat sen asian mainiosti, vaikka kuvilta on tottunut vaatimaan korkeaa laatua. Kokeilin ensin vieläkin pienempää, myöskin laadukasta kameraa, mutta ongelmaksi tuli liian pieni koko. Se ei vaan mitenkään istunut kokoiseni miehen käteen. Tämä on pieni, mutta kuitenkin riittävän iso. Toinen erinomainen ominaisuus on tässä kirkas etsin, joten tällä ei jää pulaan kirkkaassakaan auringonpaisteessa. Jostain oli kuitenkin tingittävä. Tämä ei mahdu kunnolla taskuun, mutta kun sen hyväksyy, voi olla kameraan vain tyytyväinen.

I bought this camera last year. Using it for stills it is quite good but the video results have not turned out as well as I thought they might. Regarding recommending this camera, it all depends what it is to be used for. My major complaint is that the video cuts out after 30 minutes running time and the battery doesn't last much longer!

Without a doubt my best camera to date. Feels very comfortable to hold even with my large hands, more so with the canon half case. To be honest i was expecting compact camera results from such a small lens, how wrong I was !. Sharp with great colours , equ to 24-100mm and f1.8 with built in ND filter and macro covers everything i shoot and more.

Fully articulated screen and crisp evf rounds things to a perfect 10 for me .

I bought this this the following day after a wedding photographer recommended it as he was using his as a backup, 6 months later it still amazes me. Well done canon !

Lovely little camera with the power of a giant!

Easy to use & with so many features that I have not managed to usr ½ of them!

My 70D plus lenses, tends to get heavy by the end of the day. So for hiking or general walks in the country, or city tours when on holiday, I have found the G5 X to be the ideal conpanion. Very pleased with the camera.

For serious photography I use a DSLR. However, I also climb mountains and take family holidays when carrying 6 kg of equipment isn't an option. The G5X has a stabilized f1.8 zoom lens, acceptable noise up to ISO 1000 and a viewfinder, which is essential for use in bright sunlight. The quality is remarkable for its size, but you do need to carry a spare battery.

I bought my G5 X as something portable that would take great pictures and be a substitute for my Canon 5D Mk 4 and associated gear. Having used my G5 X for some weeks I am very impressed with the results and features. It does fit in my jacket pocket with a bit of a squeeze but that's ok. My only gripe is the battery compartment lock - it opens too easily even when in my briefcase, let alone a pocket.

Super bit of kit, the manual takes some reading but the results from the camera are first class.

I bought this camera about 16 months ago in preparation for an overseas holiday involving a lot of travel and air-flights. Although a long time owner of a DLSR and a mirror-less system camera, I wanted something more compact without loosing the picture quality. I like being unobtrusive when I take pictures. I also wanted a large aperture lens with a good zoom. Now just returned from second major holiday with the G5X, I remain delighted with the purchase. Picture quality, colour, low light performance and flexibility are all excellent and I would not hesitate to recommend it (and have done frequently). I still have my G12, but the G5X adds important features like the excellent electronic viewfinder, a better lens and larger sensor.

Only been using the G5 X for a couple of weeks, but already found it very versatile for outdoor and indoor use, better than many compacts for low light and EVF a real boon. Good range of controls for experienced user and still easy for absolute beginner, but more suited to former. Covers most subjects, but would like to see slightly longer zoom on next iteration - 100mm equiv fine in most cases but 125mm - 135mm would be better. OK for your pet shots but not for wildlife or fast sports, due to slight lag in EVF. Overall a very competent package of technology for the price.

I bought this a year ago to ue at a family wedding. The picture size and quality where uppermost in the choice as taking EOS kit was not an option. This is the 4th g camera I have had and they have all just got better from the 9 to 15. I love the fact that have the same look feel and menues as the EOS so no surprises - love the whole pocket experience.

Vanhan IXUS pokkarini mentyä rikki ajattelin laadukkaampaa kameraa kännykään verrattuna. Lopulta en järjestelmäkameraa oikeastaan tarvi, koska en kuitenkaan objektiiveja vaihtaisi tai uusia ostaisi. En myöskään halua liikaa säätää tai opetella käyttöä, siksi en harkinnutkaan muuta kuin Canonia joita olen tottunut käyttämään ja jotka ovat olleet laadukkaita. Nyt 3kk käytön jälkeen olen tyytyväinen tämän kameran koon ja kuvanlaadun yhdistelmään. Kamera on liian iso farkkujen taskuun, mutta takintaskussa kulkee kätevästi. Kuvanlaatu on IXUS pokkareita selvästi parempi ja kuvissa on järkkärin tunnelmaa. Valoteho yllätti positiivisesti, vaikkakaan liikkuviin kohteisiin (kuten lapsiini) sekään ei tehoa ilman salamaa. Valoteho toimii loistavasti myös hämärään videokuvaukseen esim syksyllä/talvella ulkona, mutta zoomata ei juuri kärsi aivan pimeällä valotehon heiketessä.

Pikkumiinusta tulee WiFi ominaisuuksista, olisin olettanut että saan esim kuvat ladattua suoraan NASille kamerasta, mutta ilman PC:tä tai pilveä välissä se onnistu.

Hinta on ehkä hieman liian korkea halvimpiin järkkäreihinkin verrattuna, mutta sitäpä ei enää tule harmiteltua.

Hain hyvää ja pienikokoista kameraa ison järjestelmäkameran rinnalle. G5X täyttää loistavasti tämän tarpeen. Sen ominaisuudet riittävät helposti vaativaankin kuvaamiseen. Kirkas elektroninen etsin toimii erinomaisesti ja sähköisyyteen tottuu nopeasti. Säätömahdollisuudet ovat monipuoliset. Kuvat siirtyvät langattomassa verkossa joustavasti kännykkään, pilveen tai muihin palveluihin. G5Xn käyttöliittymä on yksinkertainen ja selkeä. G5X on verraton laite jokapäiväiseen käyttöön.

I've had my Canon G5 X for nearly a year and three long trips, and it's been the perfect travel companion. It fits neatly in a small bag or a big pocket, it doesn't weigh you down when you carry it around your neck, and it takes amazing photos under almost any conditions. Being able to quickly adjust the settings manually without going through a menu is a boon when dealing with changing light conditions, or going from capturing a vista to a macro shot, and the quality it delivers is just stunning. Thanks to this camera I've gotten beautiful photos of everything from auroras and starry skies to playful cats - it's as good on a sunny day as it's on a winter's evening at home.

The one downside is that the battery doesn't last very long at all - obviously this is the trade-off for the camera being so light and slim, but even with a spare battery it can get a bit stressful to be on the constant lookout for places to charge it when out and about. So definitely get at least one spare, if not two - and don't count on the internal battery meter to give you more than a few minutes warning, as it doesn't take many shots for it to go from two bars to out of juice. For traveling, I also wish it would have a panorama setting, as I end up using my phone to get those kind of shots.

But it's still the best travel camera I've had, by far - I love that I can bring it everywhere I go, and I love that I can rely on it in low light. The fact that you decide what functions are associated with the many manual controls means that you can make it incredibly intuitive, and I'm able to adjust everything I need on the fly without pausing to look through menus. The screen is really nice, and the viewfinder works really well even though I wear glasses. In short, I'm incredibly pleased with it, and look forward to using it as my main camera for years to come.

Laadukas kamera. Syynä hankintaan mm. kääntyvä näyttö ja valovoimaisuus, järjestelmäkameran ominaisuuksia. Helppo käyttää, hyvät kuvat. Videoinnin taso voisi olla hieman parempi. Kaiken kaikkiaan hyvä valinta. Matkakuviin todella sopiva!
