Best ever shave after 60 years of philishaving.
I bought this replacement head in October 2019, having tried (not for long) cheaper imitations. It's brilliant; closer shave achieved more quickly and effortlessly; longer gaps between washes. Earlier reviews are incomprehensible in the light of my experience, so I guess there must have been some recent modifications. I can't normally be bothered to write reviews but every time I shave now I tell myself that I really ought to spread the good news.
SakkeM, 45–54vShaving head started off well.
Unfortunately, its performance dropped off after 3 weeks and is no better than the blade it now replaces.

Good product, but from experience the guard is fragile and will break even when applied carefully as prescribed by the manufacturer.
Good to have an effective shaving head. I hope it lasts longer than the previous replacement which started to fall apart after six months with the orange plastic rings coming loose from their mountings and releasing the cutter heads. Time will tell.
Performs as Expected
Unlike other reviewers I've had no problems at all with this replacement head which I've now been using for over a month.
I had previously bought just the shaving blades themselves after the two year warning came up. A little before then the head had started making a screaming noise which could only be silenced by running the blades under a tap and thus lubricating the whole head. I had hoped that simply buying new blades alone (SH90) would fix this but it didn't.
The new complete head has basically returned the shaver to being as good as new. I've had absolutely no problems with the orange retaining clips dropping out as others have complained about and which almost put me off buying this new head - especially as it seems relatively expensive.

Poor holding clips
Have used my shaver only 4 times and unfortunately one of the orange blade holding clips just keeps falling out. Shave wise excellent but clips very poor.

Poor blade locking design
Like so many others here, i’ve Used Philips rotary razors for many years. I replaced the head with the recommended unit a few months ago despite the razor not now fitting in the travel case - a real issue as I travel for work a lot. The flimsy blade locking rings have finally failed as recorded by others. So sad - great product let down by a cheap and nasty design.
Shoddy poor quality
Having spent over £200 on a shaver with replacement blades i was looking forward to a long relationship with this shaver.
The first replacement head, whilst expensive, was of excellent quality. The second replacement however shows a completely different design and cheap manufacturing but at the same cost. There is nbo way this is worth the money they charge.
As everybody else has mentioned the design is flawed with the use of flimsy plastic retaining clips.
Do not buy this pro0duct, it is exepnsive tat.
shaving head usless
using this 1251 shaver less than 2 year .
head useless cutters have cut their way through the
cups.that should not happen as no protection for skin,
I actually thought I’d bought a cheap rip-off!
After decades of using Philips rotary head shavers it looks like it’s time to change brand.
Having bought this replacement head from Philips online for my 4 year old 9000 series (second new head as I have a strong bread growth and even had to shave twice a day at work) I have to say the new design is a big step backward and the quality of the blades is atrocious. It does not clean as easily, the blades are not held as well and After only 4 months use - and not even every day as I’m now retired - it is unable to give any sort of shave at all.
If I do not get feedback from this review I shall be contacting customer service anyway - for my money back or a product they guarantee is different, not a replacement that’s for sure!
Rubbish
I seam to be in the same position as other people with the new shaver heads. The original heads lasted ages but the new replacements are roughly lasting 6 months then are totally useless. The razor was very expensive and cant afford to keep buying replacement heads.I am now looking to buy a different brand.
Come on philips this is very poor from a big company like yourself.
Poor design of latest shaving head
I am in the same position as many others on here.
I have used Philips shavers for many years and over the years have purchased several new shavers and several new heads.
Requiring a new head for my RQ12 I ordered an exact replacement but received a RQ12PRO.
It is not a patch on the previous head and requires dismantling to clean rather flicking the head open like the old one.
Fiddly, and I can't see it surviving for long if you have to do it every day to clean shaving soap etc
Pity, Philips shavers were brilliant but looking at the huge rise in cost of new units and the poor design of current heads they have become questionable.

Very poor product, do not buy!
I have owned the previous version of this shaver head for over 4 years and it has been excellent. Unfortunately I have now purchased the new version (the old one is not available anymore) but it is a much poorer and cheaper item. It is the classic example of phillips building a cheap replacement head to replace a much better ( and probably more expensive to manufacture) item. The orange clip to hold the blades is useless and the whole item is poorly and cheaply made compared to the original. It hurts whne you use this item and I never had any problems with the previous blades and they were excellent.
I never thought I would say this but I will now have to buy a new razor (from a different manufacturer) to replace my Philips one which is a real shame.
My suggestion is to not purchase this razor head but to look elsewhere.
Replacement heads
Old one had worked lose in connection to shaver body so needed to replace it, this did the job. Ratings reflect quality of original head.
Cheaper to buy this head than a new shaver.

Pakko uusia välillä
Taas leikkaa hyvin partakone. Aika kallis varaosa koneen hintaan nähden.
jtt262M, 55–64vDo not replace
Bough that to replace heads only. But it is not the same quality as original. it does not cut at all, and hurts. use original 6 years but do not replace it.
Shaving head
Ajopää ei ollut sen mukainen minkä olin tilannut. Kuuluuhalvenpaan koneeseen.Ajopäästä vaillinaiset kuvat ja tiedot.
keka pkM, 65 tai yliPhilips RQ1250 ajopää
Parranajokoneessa alkoi vilkkua ajopään merkkivalo. Tilasin uuden ja laitoin paikoilleen. Uudella ajopäällä huomasi miten tylsällä terällä on tullut aiemmin ajaneeksi. Enää ei iho ole ärtynyt parranajon jälkeen. Kallis ajopää siihen verrattuna, että ostin aikanaan koneen tarjouksesta 99 euroa.
The Boss45–54vPhilips Sensotouch 3D - replacement shaving head
Hi, I've had the exact same issue as many many others when it came time to replace the original shaver head in my Sensotouch 3D with the RQ12+ recently.
Having used my Sensotouch 3D since 2012 and rotary Philips shavers now for 40 years I am appalled at the outstandingly useless redesigned shaving head. The Sensotouch 3D with the original shaving head is the best razer yet that Philips have ever come up with. I love it. Now after 40 years I am contemplating changing to another brand.
The issues are as follows (copied from someone else to save me time in having to write it all again):
- It seems 'sharp practice' to force you to buy a complete replacement head rather than just a set of blades (which I believe you used to be able to do?). Can you supply just the blades?
- I am forced to buy - at a not insignificant additional cost - a replacement unit which is far inferior (in design and performance) than the unit I'm replacing!!
- The orange ring does not hold the blades in place - leaving the blade rattling around inside? Every time I shave, I have to take apart the head to replace blade and ring - quite ridiculous!
In my case the orange rings not only kept falling out but the little lugs eventually wore away and wouldn't secure the blades anymore.
I paid a lot of money for my shaver and am extremely unhappy that I'll have to throw it away and buy another machine.
Best, Chris
Terrible design
Having used my Sensotouch 3D for couple years - very happily - thought I should try and replace blades. I have several concerns:-
- It seems 'sharp practice' to force you to buy a complete replacement head rather than just a set of blades (which I believe you used to be able to do?).
- I am forced to buy - at a not insignificant additional cost - a replacement unit which is far inferior (in design and performance) than the unit I'm replacing!!
- The orange ring (as others have reported but Philips has done nothing to rectify?) does not hold the blades in place - leaving the blade rattling around inside? Every time I shave, I have to take apart the head to replace blade and ring - quite ridiculous! It seems to be - cost versus design - and producing the cheapest possible solution seems to have won the day - irrespective of whether it works or not!
Having been an avid supporter of Philips products for many years - I shall now review alternative solutions. Sorry Philips - but very poor practice!!
