Amazing lens!Arvosana 5/5
I bought this lens about 15 months ago and have now used it a lot. It has been a great lens not only for wildlife and sports but also portraits.
The lens is made out of a hard plastic and rubber, feels very sturdy and is nice to hold in the hand.
I have pushed this lens to its limits and always come out really happy with the results. Like in this image I was hand holding the camera at 300mm and took this image at a 1/125. The VC on this lens is amazing.
The manual focus is smooth and the zoom has quite nice resistance too it, but not too stiff and not too loose.
The auto focus is silent and fast. I have been using this lens with a Nikon d5100 with a single point focus and very rarely have an issue hitting focus first time, when I do its normally a bird in a tree with many branches.
Some bad points, I had to dig deep to find these and well I don't really think there big issues but its all I could think of.
Recently I have notice when using this lens for astrophotography, pointing up at a very steep angle the lens creeps from 300mm to 120mm range. A little bit of tape solves the issue. Not sure if its just all the use I have given it or is it just not suited for such angles.
The lens hood is great just the plastic attachments have worn quite a lot making it rather stiff to put on.
When zoomed out to 300mm you really don't want to knock the lens on anything, Where the lens extends that plastic there feels like it wont take much of a knock to damage it.
Even with the bad points I would still recommend this lens over the Nikon 70-300!
