The Best!!
This is my second one. I love Wber Smokey Mountains! The first one from 2011 is still going strong I just needed a second one.
Nothing Better than a WSM!
Except for a pellet smoker and stickburner, I have owned all types of smokers over the last 25 years—kamados, electrics, kettles with charcoal baskets for indirect cooking, and multiple types of each. But bar none, my favorite is my WSM 18" that I purchased in '09. The WSM 18" served me better than all for smoking due to its simplicity (no moving parts), its use of a ubiquitous fuel, and my love for managing a fire.
One of the underappreciated aspects of the WSM is the ability to adjust smoke flavor for different meats and palates. Not all smokers have such flexibility, but the WSMs do, and the 22" doesn't disappoint in that area. Also, with the simplicity of design and some experience, you can learn to manage the fire to hit stable temperatures without the use of a thermoelectric-controlled blower.
When I needed more smoking real estate, although tempted with the new Weber pellet smokers (they look so awesome), I went with the larger version of my G.O.A.T. I ordered the WSM 22" and it hasn't disappointed. Due to my experience on the 18th, it took me only one cook to figure out how to manage the fire and dial in the desired temperature, achieving temperature stability for hours. The extra real estate allowed me to cook two 13 lb spatchcocked turkeys for Thanksgiving on the top grate and catch the drippings in a pan on the bottom grate for delicious gravy with a kiss of smoke.
If, like me, you enjoy fire and smoke management as part of the BBQ process, you won't be disappointed with the WSM.
Smokin' Smoker
Tough, durable and just keeps on smoking. One of the best presents I've ever received.
New owner
Have only used once since purchase but easy to use, easy to light and keep heat at right temperature. Great results on the ribs I smoked. Put wheels on it to make it easy to move around. Sealed up tight and did not have much smoke leakage. Very pleased with it over my old electric smoker.
Money well spent
10/10 just need to upgrade the thermostat and bend the door a tad
Love it’s performance
Kids bought this for me 14 years ago and it smokes great barbecue. Have never had an issue with it and I enjoy it.
Fantastic Smoker
This thing is fabulous. I switched from an offset smoker, and with the dual racks, and large water pan, I'm getting consistent and even better results than I was before. I purchased this specifically to compete in a pork ribs contest, and I took 2nd (no fault of the smoker). With the 10 year warrantee, I look forward to using this much, much longer than my offset that rusted out after 5 years. Thanks, Weber, for making this smoker great!
Smoker WSM 22 inch 101
I recently purchased the WSM 22-inch smoker, All in all it's a good smoker, however I found it to cook around 300-315 F with no water in water pan using lump charcoal. You will have to close down air intakes quite a bit to lower temperature to around 275 F and wait for smoker temperature to come down. I also recommend that you purchase an aftermarket door gasket kit to prevent smoke residue from coming out around access door and staining outer edges of main cooking chamber. I also purchased a stainless hinge for the dome lid, which makes life a lot easier to baste meats while cooking.
Holds temps perfectly
I loved my Smoky Mountain! Even the beginner can easily learn and build their skills on this smoker. So easy to use and maintain. I will miss mine as I lost it from a tree falling on it while camping Sep 20,2025 at Argyle lake State Park in Colchester, IL My wife and I are blessed to have not been seriously injured or worse. So thankful! I will buy another Smoky mountain when we are able.
Wonderful 22” WSM
It’s wonderful! I have 5 Weber grills. 2 18” wsm. But had a real problem getting briskets to fit. So finally got a 22” wsm and My first cook was an 11lb prime brisket had room to spare. It was great! Love it
Awesome product.
I was a fan of the Weber products already before I purchased this smoker. This item lived up to the reputation. Absolutely love this smoker.
Overall Excellent Smoker
If you’re looking to smoke full packer Briskets & larger meats, this is the best size to get. I used to own the 18.5 but over time learned it wasn’t the right size for my applications. It maintains temps really well and stabilizes pretty. There are a number of mods out there you can apply that will really help dial in. But this is definitely a smoker that you can get directly out the box and smoke for over 18 hours without issue
As good as I remember.
Bought the 22" as I had an 18" many years ago, but had to get rid of it when I moved into a condo. It's really big, can do two briskets or 8 racks of side ribs. Good heat and the water bath keeps the humidity up and has no flare ups. Would recommend for a charcoal/wood smoker to anyone.
22 inch WSM
After long research I decided on 22 inch . The WSM really does a great job in stabilizing and maintaining consistency with even heat control . I am experienced in charcoal smoking and prefer over pellet. I am pleased with the performance of this smoker ! It does not hat Weber says it does.
Best smoker out there!
I love this thing! It cooks and smokes beautifully! That being said, I think having a sturdier side access door than the one included would make it all the better. Smoke leaks out of there because it’s flimsy. I really enjoy the WSM though. It has opened my eyes to how much fun bbq can be!
Very good, but front panel too flimsy
It's all great except for the front door panel, which is too thin and flimsy, leading to temperature loss. Will probably have to look into an after-market solution to replace the door.
Love this thing
This smoker is awesome! Works as it should and seems to be built to last. I get 11hr smokes on this thing doing pork shoulders and they have turned out perfect every time.
Great cooker.
Love the SM cooker. I made an awesome Boston Butt the first time I used it. Maintained a great smoking temp of 225 degrees for several hours. The water bath helped to keep the meat from drying out.
Second time purchase
This is my second Smokey Mountain and I did not consider any other smoker when I bought this one.
Great smoker
Easy to use, consistent temperature, great results. Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Just wish the door was better molded to the shape of the rest of the body
Great Brisket -- Some assembly challenges
I think you should probably do a focus group for assembly with the instructions and no further help. These need embellishment. I was only able to do after viewing non Weber youtubes. The seems flimsy. Those the negatives. But I made the best brisket I ever ate on the first try. So 4 stars/
Happy Husband, Great Brisket
Bought this for my husband and he could not be happier with this smoker. He quickly put it together in an afternoon, got a few bunch of bacon smokes to grease the inside a bit, and his first brisket came out beautifully according to the folks at the Fourth of July cookout. He’s saying it’s been easy to use and maintain thus far and no real complaints to speak of.
Awesome smoker
Greatest smoker I've used in a long time. Pan seared 3 5 lb pork butts and let em ride for 4 hours with apple wood chuck and charcoal. Wrapped em with a stick of butter and let em ride another 4 hours. Let rest for an hour and the bone fell out. So tender and juicy. Wow. I borrowed my neighbor's. I'll own one before Thanksgiving.
My Second Smokey Mountain
This is my second Smokey Mountain. My first was an 18.5” model that I outgrew. I have that one to my son-in-law. Although the Smokey Mountain is a bit more labor intensive to set up than some other smokers, the results are worth the effort. I love that you can set it and forget it. Once the unit is at the desired temperature, it stays there for hours. The 22.5” model is large enough for all of my smoking needs and the output speaks for itself. The flavor from the wood choice is just outstanding. I can’t imagine owing any other type of smoker.
